Three mountain pieces stack into one outing: Class II+ rafting, a two-hour walk to Devil's Throat, and a guided 18-metre rappel. Hotel pickup from Mendoza City is included, with kit and briefings for each part.
You kit up at Playa Gutiérrez, run through paddle commands, and descend about eight kilometres of moderate whitewater with a support kayak. After you change, you walk the Potrerillos trails toward Devil's Throat for about two hours with a bilingual guide, on rocky dry-river ground rather than a high pass. The walk is paced so you can look at the formations, not rushed to make room for the rope.
The day finishes on an 18-metre rappel, with a full briefing and kit fitted before you step back. Water and a snack come with the mountain sections. You return to Mendoza with the same vehicle once everyone is off the wall and the harnesses are packed away.
Potrerillos is the working adventure pocket west of Mendoza, where the river, dry trails, and short cliffs sit close enough to combine in one day. You feel the Andes as soon as you leave the city grid: vineyard flats give way to reservoir country, then a river beach and pale hills. The three pieces of the outing stay inside that one corridor rather than spreading across the province.
Devil's Throat is a rock and dry-river landscape rather than a high pass, which is why it pairs with rafting instead of a long approach. The rappel wall sits in the same foothills, so you are not transferring to a separate mountain range for the last activity. Mendoza City remains the start and end point.
No previous rafting, hiking, or rappelling is required, but you need everyday fitness and a willingness to get wet, walk uneven ground, and use a harness. The minimum age is eight.
Closed shoes are required for the trek and rappel. You should be happy with height on an 18-metre wall and with getting wet on the river. Anyone under 18 should come with a responsible adult.
Combination days like this have been part of the Mendoza operation since 1966, so the river-to-trail-to-rope sequence is a known rhythm rather than three last-minute add-ons. Kit is fitted on site for the river and the rope.
Briefings run in English and Spanish, and a support kayak stays with the rafts. You get water, trail, and a short wall in a single outing from the city, with one pickup covering all three.
Hotel pickup covers the designated Mendoza City area and addresses within about 1.5 km of Plaza Independencia. Further out, you will be given a nearby meeting point.
Wear walking shoes from the start and keep a swimsuit and dry change easy to reach. The day moves between the river beach and the Potrerillos trails. You return to Mendoza with the same vehicle.
You raft about eight kilometres of Class II+ water, hike about two hours to Devil's Throat, and finish with a guided 18-metre rappel. Each part has its own briefing and kit fitted on site.
Hotel pickup in the designated Mendoza City area, rafting kit, a support kayak, water and a snack on the mountain sections, bilingual guiding, and personal accident insurance are included.
The river run is about 40 minutes. The hike is about two hours. The rappel block, including briefing and waiting your turn, is about two and a half hours.
The full outing including hotel pickup is around nine hours. You return to Mendoza the same day with the same vehicle after the last descent.
The day is rated moderate, but it is a full mountain outing: water, walking, then a rope descent. You should be happy to get wet, walk uneven trails, and trust a harness on an 18-metre wall.
The minimum age is eight and the usual group is four to 23 people. This is not a spectator day. Everyday fitness is enough if you are happy with all three pieces.
For the river you get a wetsuit, neoprene boots, helmet, paddle, and buoyancy aid. For the rappel you get the rope kit and a harness fitted by the guides before you step back.
Wear closed walking shoes for the trek and rappel. Bring a swimsuit for under the wetsuit and a full dry change for afterwards, plus a small backpack for the walk.
The minimum age is eight. Anyone under 18 should come with a responsible adult who stays with them on the river, the trail, and the wall.
Mention ages so the team can confirm the river and rappel limits for your date. Closed shoes are required once you leave the rafting beach.
You are collected from hotels in the designated Mendoza City area, or from a nearby meeting point if you stay further out. Stays within about 1.5 km of Plaza Independencia are usually covered.
Rafting starts in the Playa Gutiérrez to Aforadora area. The trek and rappel stay in the Potrerillos hills. You return to Mendoza with the same vehicle.
No previous rafting, hiking, or rappelling is required. Guides brief each activity before you start and fit kit on site for the river and the rope.
You still need everyday fitness and a willingness to follow instructions on the river and on the rope. This is not a spectator day; you move through all three pieces.
These days run in typical mountain weather. If the river or the rappel is not safe, the team may reschedule and will be in touch with the new plan.
Winter river conditions can feel colder even in a wetsuit. Pack a warm layer for after you change and for the walk toward Devil's Throat.
Mineral water and a granola bar are included for the trek and rappel. A proper lunch is not, so the snack covers a gap rather than a sit-down meal.
Eat before pickup or bring an extra snack if you usually need more than a bar between activities. There is time to eat again once you are back in Mendoza.
The rappel is a guided 18-metre descent with a safety briefing and all rope kit fitted on site. You are not left to set your own anchors or choose the line.
Guides talk you through the first steps on the wall. The block includes waiting your turn as well as the descent itself, so the group moves at a steady pace.

About the centre
Mendoza
We run guided adventure days and multi-day expeditions from Mendoza into the Andes: rafting and kayaking on the Mendoza River, zip-lining over Potrerillos, treks to Devil's Throat and Cerro Cabras, horseback rides through Lunlunta and the foothills, and longer routes toward Aconcagua and the high passes into Chile. Pickup is arranged from hotels in Mendoza City, with a nearby meeting point if you are staying outside that area, and a bilingual guide stays with you through the day.
Days are built around safety briefings, the right kit for the river or the trail, and enough time to take in the landscape rather than rush from one stop to the next. Combo days mix river, zip-line, hot springs or rappelling; longer programmes include camping, full board, and support on the mountain. Whether you want a few hours on the water or a multi-day crossing, the same local team looks after the logistics so you can focus on the Andes.
