Two contrasting rainforest activities are brought together in this private full-day tour, starting with whitewater rafting through jungle-lined rapids and finishing with a zipline canopy course above the forest. The day focuses on active exploration, moving between river currents and treetop viewpoints within the Sarapiquí region.
Hotel pickup from San Jose marks the start of the journey, followed by a private drive through rural landscapes and rainforest corridors towards the Sarapiquí region. On arrival, your guide provides a full safety briefing and equipment fitting before beginning the rafting section. The river route includes a mix of moderate rapids and calmer stretches, with constant guidance from trained river specialists who manage navigation and safety throughout the descent.
After completing the rafting experience, the day continues with a short transfer to the canopy course. Here, a second safety briefing prepares you for a zipline circuit featuring multiple cables and elevated platforms set within the forest canopy. The course moves between treetops, opening views across dense rainforest and river valleys before finishing on the ground. A freshly prepared lunch follows the activities before the return journey to San Jose begins.
Sarapiquí sits in Costa Rica’s northern lowlands, an area known for dense rainforest, river systems and high biodiversity. The region is shaped by tropical climate conditions that support fast-flowing rivers and rich vegetation throughout the year.
The rafting section takes place on the Sarapiquí River, a well-known route for whitewater activity with varying rapids depending on rainfall. The canopy course is located within a private forest reserve designed for aerial exploration above the rainforest floor.
No previous rafting or zipline experience is required as full instruction is provided before each activity begins. Safety equipment and briefing sessions are included for both sections of the tour.
A moderate level of fitness is recommended due to paddling during rafting and walking between canopy platforms. Participants should also be comfortable with water movement, heights and changing outdoor conditions.
Tours are led by professional naturalist guides with strong experience in both river navigation and rainforest ecosystems. Each activity is structured to combine safety with interpretation of the surrounding environment.
The focus is on responsible travel, supporting local communities and conservation areas within the Sarapiquí region. Small-group operation and certified guiding standards ensure a controlled, informative and well-managed experience throughout the day.
