Take a private ride through the green heart of Edinburgh on this scenic cycle tour that loops around Arthur’s Seat and into some of the city’s best-kept natural spaces. With quiet paths, panoramic views and a few surprising discoveries, this route is perfect for groups who want a relaxed, fully guided experience with the freedom to ride at their own pace.
Starting from the city’s West End, this private route takes you off the main roads and onto a mixture of scenic paths and green spaces, including the Union Canal and Bruntsfield Links. Your guide will lead the way toward the iconic slopes of Arthur’s Seat, with time to enjoy the views and hear stories about the area’s volcanic past and local folklore. The pace is relaxed and ideal for families, friends or mixed-ability groups looking for something a little quieter and more nature-focused.
A highlight of the ride is a visit to the “Secret Garden”—a peaceful spot many locals don’t even know about—hidden near the Duddingston Natural Reserve. Along the way, you’ll also follow parts of the Innocent Railway Path, a traffic-free route with historical character. With 11.5 miles to cover over a couple of hours, there’s plenty of time for photo stops, short breaks and an optional café pause if you'd like. Helmets are included, and you can bring your own bike or hire a hybrid or e-bike if preferred.
The meeting point is outside The Caledonian Hotel at 11 Rutland Street, right in the centre of Edinburgh. From there, the route is carefully designed to avoid busy roads and make the most of the capital’s quiet cycle paths, nature reserves and green corridors. You’ll quickly leave the city bustle behind as the group heads toward the grassy slopes of Arthur’s Seat and surrounding parkland.
Throughout the ride, you’ll experience a mix of well-known landmarks and hidden local favourites. From the historic Union Canal and leafy Bruntsfield Links to the wide-open views around Holyrood Park and Duddingston Loch, the terrain varies from urban paths to peaceful nature trails. The full loop returns to the city centre, making it easy to continue your day after the tour.
This ride is open to all ages within private groups and can be adjusted to suit the ability level of your party. It’s a mostly flat route with a few steady climbs, and a basic level of bike confidence is helpful. Your guide will make sure the pace works for everyone, and e-bikes are a great option for those who want a bit of extra help.
By law, e-bike riders must be at least 14 years old. All participants must wear a helmet, which is provided unless you prefer to use your own. Whether you’re a regular cyclist or just want to get outdoors for a couple of hours, this ride is a great fit for anyone who enjoys a gentle route with natural scenery.
Led by experienced guide Riccardo, these private tours combine local knowledge, safe route planning and a real passion for exploring Scotland by bike. The team is committed to helping people enjoy the outdoors at their own pace—whether that’s a short spin through urban green space or a more adventurous ride into wilder terrain. You’ll benefit from route flexibility, personal attention and the chance to ask questions or tweak the experience as you go. Private bookings can also include optional extras like pick-up, transport or longer breaks—just let us know what would make your ride perfect.
