Cycling offers one of the best ways to see Edinburgh at your own pace, from its historic streets to the scenic countryside just beyond the city. With Bronze, Silver and Gold hire tiers available, you can choose the type and quality of bike that fits your plans — whether you’re exploring local landmarks, tackling longer routes or testing top-end performance models. Each hire includes all essential gear and helpful guidance from a knowledgeable local team.
Each tier represents a step up in quality, components and ride experience — the higher the tier, the more refined and performance-oriented the bike. Regardless of which you choose, all bikes are maintained to excellent standards and come with helmets, locks and puncture repair kits as standard. When you arrive, staff will help adjust your bike for comfort, explain the equipment and suggest routes suited to your ability and available time. Pick-up and drop-off take place at the Sauchiebank base, with optional delivery and collection available on request.
The hire centre is conveniently located in Sauchiebank, just a short distance from central Edinburgh. From this base, you can easily connect to several of the city’s best cycle routes, including traffic-free paths leading to Arthur’s Seat, Holyrood Park and the Forth coastline. The surrounding area provides easy access to both urban cycling and quieter scenic trails, making it suitable for every type of rider.
If you’re looking for longer rides, Sauchiebank also provides direct access to routes such as the Union Canal path to Balerno or the John Muir Way, which stretches along the east coast towards North Berwick. Staff can provide route maps, recommendations and advice on distances, surfaces and nearby refreshment stops to help plan your day.
Riders must be 18 or over to hire a bike and must present valid photo ID, such as a driving licence or passport. Riders under 18 can hire bikes when accompanied by an adult who completes the booking and takes responsibility for the equipment.
Before setting off, you’ll receive a brief overview covering safety, equipment use and cycling in Edinburgh.
