Spend a day getting comfortable behind the wheel of a small powerboat. You’ll practise launching, steering, stopping, and mooring, all while learning safety and equipment use. It’s a relaxed, friendly day designed to give you confidence on the water.
You’ll start onshore with a briefing about your boat, safety checks, and essential theory. Then you’ll practise getting the boat off the trailer and into the water safely, with guidance every step of the way.
Once you’re on the water, you’ll focus on driving skills like steering, stopping, and turning, as well as practising mooring and anchoring. Lifejackets, man-overboard drills, and safety procedures are woven into all exercises. By the end of the day, you’ll feel confident handling a small powerboat and, if you meet the standards, you’ll earn your RYA Level 1 certificate.

FOR ALL WATER BASED COURSES Please bring with you:
You’ll spend your day steering, stopping, and turning the boat to get a real feel for how it handles. You’ll practise coming alongside, anchoring, and using simple knots for mooring.
Every exercise also covers safety, including lifejacket use and what to do in a man-overboard situation. Your instructor will stay close, giving guidance and feedback at every stage.
You don’t need a thing! This course is made for complete beginners and anyone wanting a refresher. Exercises start simple and build as you go, so you can learn at your own pace.
If you’ve tried boating before, you’ll get tips and structured practice to fill in any gaps and boost your confidence behind the wheel.
Yes! The course needs at least two people to run, so bringing a friend guarantees your session goes ahead.
If you’re booking alone, the team will try to pair you with someone else. That way you still get hands-on practice and a full day of fun.
You’ll get the RYA Level 1 certificate when you complete the day. It shows you can safely handle a small powerboat under supervision.
This certificate is recognised by RYA-affiliated clubs and gives you the confidence to keep practising and move on to higher-level courses.
Bring waterproof clothes and shoes that can get wet, a towel, and a change of clothes. Sun protection like sunscreen and a hat is highly recommended.
Lifejackets are supplied, but you can bring your own if you prefer. Being properly prepared helps you enjoy the day and stay safe.
Light rain or mild wind won’t stop the fun, but storms or strong winds will.
If conditions are unsafe, the session will be postponed. You’ll be contacted in advance with alternative dates or private session options.
