Experience the Algarve coastline from the deck of a classic sailing yacht and discover places that are often only accessible from the water. Combining sailing, swimming, snorkelling and paddleboarding, this trip offers a fantastic way to explore one of Portugal's most famous stretches of coast.
Spend three relaxing hours cruising past dramatic cliffs, hidden coves and quiet beaches while enjoying the freedom and comfort of life at sea.
Your adventure begins at Marina de Portimão, where you'll board a traditional sailing yacht before setting course along the Algarve's spectacular coastline. As you leave the marina behind, you'll sail past towering limestone cliffs, secluded beaches and natural rock formations that have made this part of Portugal famous around the world.
The route takes you towards the beautiful bay of João d'Arens, one of the quieter and more scenic areas of the coast. Here, conditions permitting, you'll have the opportunity to drop anchor and enjoy time in the water. Crystal-clear conditions make this an excellent place to swim, snorkel and explore the coastline from a different perspective. Paddleboards are also available, allowing you to glide across the calm waters and access corners of the bay that larger boats cannot reach.
Throughout the experience, there is plenty of time to relax onboard, enjoy the sea breeze and take in the scenery. Whenever weather conditions allow, the return journey is completed under sail, offering an authentic sailing experience as you quietly cruise back towards Portimão with uninterrupted views of the Algarve coastline.
Portimão sits on the western Algarve coast and provides access to some of the most impressive coastal scenery in southern Portugal. The region is known for its golden cliffs, hidden beaches, sea caves and sheltered bays, many of which can only be fully appreciated from the water.
The bay of João d'Arens is a highlight of the trip. Less crowded than some of the Algarve's better-known locations, it offers clear waters, striking rock formations and a peaceful setting that is ideal for swimming, snorkelling and paddleboarding. Exploring this area by yacht provides a completely different perspective from anything available on land.
No previous sailing, snorkelling or paddleboarding experience is required. The experience is designed for guests of all abilities who would like to enjoy a relaxed and enjoyable day on the water. Complete beginners are welcome and guidance can be provided when using the paddleboards.
Participants should be comfortable around water and able to board the yacht safely. Anyone planning to swim, snorkel or paddleboard should bring suitable swimwear and a towel. Activities on the water are always subject to sea and weather conditions on the day.
This experience combines several of the Algarve's best coastal activities into one enjoyable trip. Rather than simply passing by the scenery, you'll have the opportunity to stop, explore, swim and interact with the environment while enjoying the comfort of a traditional sailing yacht.
The smaller, more exclusive setting creates a relaxed atmosphere that is difficult to find on larger sightseeing boats. With sailing, snorkelling, paddleboarding and coastal exploration all included, it offers an authentic way to experience the Algarve away from the busiest tourist areas.
No experience is required for any part of this trip. The experience is designed for guests who want to enjoy the Algarve coastline from the water, whether they are complete beginners or already comfortable with activities such as paddleboarding and snorkelling.
The focus is on exploration and enjoyment rather than instruction. The crew will explain how to use the equipment and answer any questions, allowing first-time participants to feel comfortable and confident throughout the experience.
The experience includes opportunities to snorkel in the clear waters around João d'Arens, one of the Algarve's most picturesque coastal areas. The calm conditions often found in the bay make it an excellent location for exploring beneath the surface and observing the local marine environment.
Water clarity varies depending on weather and sea conditions, but the area is well known for its clear water and rocky formations. Many guests find snorkelling one of the highlights of the trip.
Yes. Stand up paddleboarding is suitable for beginners and many guests try it for the first time during this experience. Calm conditions within sheltered bays often provide an ideal environment for learning the basics and building confidence on the board.
You are free to paddle at your own pace and there is no pressure to venture far from the yacht. Guests who prefer not to paddle can simply relax onboard or enjoy swimming and snorkelling instead.
Yes, the itinerary includes a stop in the bay of João d'Arens where guests can enjoy the water, conditions permitting. The stop is designed to give everyone time to swim, relax and make the most of the surroundings rather than simply viewing them from the yacht.
Swimming conditions are assessed by the skipper on the day. Safety is always the priority, and the location of the stop may be adjusted to ensure the most comfortable experience possible.
João d'Arens is one of the Algarve's lesser-known coastal gems. Characterised by dramatic cliffs, rocky inlets and clear water, it offers a more peaceful atmosphere than many of the region's busier beaches and tourist hotspots.
Approaching the area by yacht allows you to appreciate parts of the coastline that are difficult or impossible to access by land. The combination of natural scenery and calm waters makes it an excellent location for swimming and water activities.
Guests should bring a towel, swimwear, sunscreen and any personal items they may need during the trip. Sunglasses and a hat are also recommended, particularly during the summer months when the Algarve enjoys strong sunshine for much of the day.
Although temperatures are usually warm, conditions can feel cooler out at sea. A light jacket or extra layer can be useful, especially outside the peak summer season or if there is a stronger breeze on the return journey.
Yes. The relaxed nature of the cruise makes it suitable for families looking to spend quality time together on the water. Children often enjoy the opportunity to swim, look for marine life and try paddleboarding in a safe and supervised environment.
Parents should ensure that children are comfortable around water and follow all instructions given by the skipper. The crew will always prioritise safety and adapt activities according to conditions and participant abilities.
Whenever weather conditions allow, the yacht will use its sails during part of the journey, particularly on the return leg towards Portimão. Sailing under wind power provides a quieter and more traditional experience that many guests find particularly memorable.
However, sailing depends entirely on wind and sea conditions. The skipper will always choose the safest and most enjoyable way to operate the yacht, which may require the use of the engine during parts of the trip.
This experience is designed to provide a comfortable and exclusive atmosphere onboard. Group sizes are kept manageable to ensure everyone has space to relax, enjoy the activities and appreciate the scenery without feeling crowded.
The yacht offers multiple areas for guests to sit, socialise and enjoy the views. This makes the experience equally suitable for couples, families and small groups of friends.
Viewing the Algarve from the sea offers a completely different perspective from exploring by road or visiting the beaches. The coastline reveals hidden coves, secluded beaches and impressive rock formations that are often impossible to appreciate fully from land.
Travelling by sailing yacht also allows you to slow down and enjoy the journey itself. Rather than rushing between locations, you'll have time to relax, connect with the surroundings and experience one of Portugal's most famous coastlines in a more authentic and memorable way.
