A monastery day takes you east of Kathmandu to Namo Buddha, a Buddhist shrine at 1,750 metres in Kavre, about 38 kilometres from the city. We'll collect you at 8:00, walk from Dhapasi to the stupa, eat lunch, then continue to Dhulikhel for the drive home.
The drive leaves Kathmandu around 8:00 and takes about an hour and a half to Dhapasi. From there you'll walk about an hour and a half up to Namo Buddha. At the hill you'll visit the stupa, the shrines, and the stone slab that shows Prince Mahasattva and the tigress.
Lunch is at a local restaurant, with time in the Newar villages around the hill. Cover shoulders and knees at the shrine, and take a few minutes at the stone slab before you sit down to eat.
The last hour of walking runs across to Dhulikhel. On a clear afternoon the snow line sits on the horizon. The vehicle meets you there and drives you back to the hotel around 16:00.
Thrangu Tashi Yangtse monastery sits on a small hill in Kavre, east of Kathmandu, at the Namo Buddha shrine. The stupa marks the story of Prince Mahasattva, and the stone slab beside it tells that story in relief.
Dhapasi is the start of the walk. Dhulikhel is the ridge town where the vehicle waits for the drive home. Both sit on the same east-valley road, so the day stays on one line out of the city and back.
You do not need previous hiking experience. You should be happy walking about an hour and a half uphill and an hour across to Dhulikhel.
The minimum age is 6. Bring water, sturdy shoes, and clothes that cover shoulders and knees at the shrine. Tell us about any medical needs before you come.
Day walks carry the same Lazimpat pattern we have used for two decades: an English-speaking guide at 8:00, hotel pickup inside Kathmandu, and a vehicle waiting at the far end.
The guide stays with you from the lobby through the shrine and lunch. The office holds the hotel name so the drive home is already in the plan.

We'll collect you from your hotel in Kathmandu at 8:00 and drive about an hour and a half to Dhapasi, where the walk begins. The vehicle meets you again in Dhulikhel and brings you back to the hotel around 16:00.
We'll collect you at 8:00 from your Kathmandu hotel and drive about an hour and a half to Dhapasi. From there you'll walk about an hour and a half up to Namo Buddha at 1,750 metres. After time at the shrine and lunch in a local restaurant, you'll walk about an hour to Dhulikhel.
The vehicle meets you in Dhulikhel and drives you back to the hotel around 16:00. The whole outing is about eight hours, including the road time.
Namo Buddha sits at 1,750 metres in Kavre, about 38 kilometres east of Kathmandu. The stupa and shrines mark the place where, in the story, Prince Mahasattva offered his body to a starving tigress and her cubs. A stone slab beside the stupa shows that scene.
From the hill you look over the villages below and, on a clear afternoon, the snow line. Dress modestly at the shrine.
The minimum age is 6. Children walk the same path as the adults, with hotel pickup and a vehicle waiting in Dhulikhel.
The walking is graded easy: about an hour and a half up and about an hour across to Dhulikhel. Younger walkers should be used to a few hours on dirt paths.
You do not need previous hiking experience. You should be happy walking about an hour and a half uphill and an hour across to Dhulikhel, with time at the shrine in between.
A hiking pole helps on the descent toward Dhulikhel. We'll walk at a pace the group can hold.
Lunch is at a local restaurant after the shrine visit, with time in the Newar villages around the hill. Bring water and a snack for the walk up.
Breakfast and dinner are not included. You'll be back at the hotel around 16:00, in time to eat in Kathmandu.
Bring a water bottle, trail snacks, trek trousers, a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, a small first-aid kit, and a hiking pole if you use one.
Cover shoulders and knees at the shrine. Your guide will give you time at the stupa and the stone slab before lunch.
You can cancel up to 24 hours before the activity for a full refund, in line with the Flexible policy.
If cloud sits on the hill, the walk still runs; the snow line may be hidden. We'll keep the same shrine and village plan.
We'll collect you from your Kathmandu hotel at 8:00. Have the hotel name ready when you book.
Pickup covers hotels inside the city. If you are staying outside the ring road, tell us so we can plan the extra drive toward Dhapasi.
This is a guided day walk, not a qualification course. You will not receive an award.
Your English-speaking guide stays with you from the hotel pickup through the shrine, lunch, and the walk to Dhulikhel.
The booking includes the English-speaking guide, private vehicle, hotel pickup and drop-off, and lunch at a local restaurant.
Tips, extra drinks, snacks on the trail, and personal shopping in the villages are not included.
