Over twelve days you'll progress from the valleys of Svaneti through glacier camps to the high plateau beneath Ushba's north summit. Technical preparation, acclimatisation hikes and glacier crossings build the skills and fitness needed for a demanding D+ summit route.
You'll camp beneath the famous north face, cross the Ushba Glacier and tackle fixed ropes and exposed ridges on summit day. Two reserve days are built into the schedule so your guide can wait for the safest weather window.

Unlike less technical mountaineering objectives, Ushba demands careful preparation and strong decision-making throughout the climb. Participants benefit from experienced support both on and off the mountain, allowing them to focus fully on the challenge while every aspect of the expedition is managed professionally.
After arriving in either Tbilisi or Kutaisi, you'll transfer to the mountain village of Mazeri. Situated beneath some of the highest peaks in Georgia, Mazeri provides the ideal starting point for the expedition and offers a first taste of traditional Svan culture.
The following day, the route continues through forests and alpine terrain towards the camp below the Ushba Glacier. Along the way, you'll enjoy views of the impressive Shdugra Waterfall before spending the night beneath the towering walls of Ushba.
The expedition gains altitude as you cross the Ushba Glacier and continue towards Gnezdo Camp at approximately 3,350 metres. This section introduces participants to the glacier environment while providing increasingly dramatic views of the mountain.
From there, you'll bypass the icefall and establish Advanced Base Camp on the Ushba Plateau at around 4,100 metres. Positioned high above the valleys below, the camp offers spectacular views towards Elbrus, Shkhara and the surrounding Caucasus range.
Technical preparation begins with acclimatisation hikes and practical sessions using mountaineering equipment on the lower sections of the route. These outings help refine movement techniques and allow guides to assess conditions higher on the mountain.
An additional rest day follows, providing time for recovery, weather monitoring and final preparations before the summit attempt.
Before sunrise, you'll begin the ascent of Ushba North via a demanding D+ route. The climb involves fixed ropes, exposed ridges, steep snow and ice sections and complex alpine terrain requiring concentration and teamwork throughout.
After eight to nine hours of climbing, you'll reach the summit at 4,710 metres. The reward is a panoramic view across the Greater Caucasus before beginning the long descent towards the camps below.
Following the summit attempt, the expedition descends through the glacier camps and returns to lower elevations. Depending on conditions and group progress, the descent may continue directly to Mazeri or include an overnight stop along the route.
The following day, you'll travel to Mestia, where there is time to explore the region's famous medieval towers, museums and mountain culture before gathering for a celebratory dinner.
Two reserve days have been built into the itinerary to allow flexibility in the event of poor weather or route delays.
Once the expedition is complete, you'll transfer back to either Tbilisi or Kutaisi before departing with memories of one of the Caucasus' most iconic technical climbs.
