Seals bob around your kayak at Pelican Point, then the afternoon swaps spray for sand as a 4x4 climbs into Namib dunes near Sandwich Harbour scenery. One full day in Walvis Bay covers ocean wildlife, a beach picnic, and a celebratory lunch in the sand without juggling two separate operators.
Morning hours belong to the lagoon: kit up at the waterfront, transfer toward Pelican Point, and paddle double sit on top kayaks among curious seals while guides watch wind and swell. A beach picnic with hot drinks refuels you before the switch to 4x4 vehicles.
Afternoon driving crosses soft sand with wildlife stops and a dune lunch of finger snacks and sparkling wine. Guides stitch the two halves together so you stay on schedule without feeling hurried between sea and desert.
Pelican Point peninsula shelters Walvis Bay lagoon from the open Atlantic and hosts large seal colonies viewable from the water. The afternoon route enters Namib dune belts south of town toward Sandwich Harbour scenery where ocean and desert collide.
Coastal fog can appear mornings while dune sections turn sunny and windy; layers and sun protection suit both segments. Your guide chooses launch and driving windows with daily conditions in mind.
Basic fitness for paddling in a tandem kayak and riding bumpy 4x4 tracks is enough, and no kayak certificate is required. Guides cover paddle technique and safety on shore before you launch.
Minimum age thirteen applies. Non swimmers should discuss comfort levels with the guide before launch so everyone feels confident on the water.
Teams that run both lagoon paddles and dune routes daily know how to sequence tides, wind, and driving windows so the full day flows instead of fighting the clock.
Equipment, picnic, and lunch components are coordinated in one itinerary, with the same crew handling briefings on the water and in the vehicle.
You meet at the Walvis Bay waterfront near the angling club area where your guide starts the day. Arrive a few minutes early with your confirmation details ready to show.
Exact pin and start time for your date appear on the live calendar once you choose a departure. Parking nearby is usually available for self drivers.
The combined day runs about eight hours including kayaking, transfers, the 4x4 desert section, and lunch.
Timing flexes with tides, wildlife activity, and group pace so you get safe kayaking conditions and unhurried dune time afterward.
Minimum age is thirteen because of kayaking on open water and the later 4x4 dune driving section.
All participants should be comfortable sitting in a double kayak and following guide instructions on the water and in the vehicle.
Groups are typically two to fifteen guests across the kayak and 4x4 portions of the day.
Double sit on top kayaks are used so pairs paddle together with guide support from nearby safety craft where provided.
Kayak equipment, protective clothing, flotation devices, dry bags for cameras, bottled water, and a beach picnic with hot drinks and snacks are included for the morning paddle.
The afternoon 4x4 section includes desert driving, wildlife stops, and lunch with finger snacks and sparkling wine in the dunes as described for this route.
Bring warm layers, a towel, hat, sunscreen, and a camera in a dry bag. You may get splashed despite protective gear.
Passport or ID may be required for park or activity checks in Namibia; carry it for the full day.
Morning kayaking among seals and dolphins depends on calm conditions at Pelican Point. Guides monitor wind and swell before launching.
If weather prevents kayaking, your guide will explain alternatives or adjustments for the day based on safety policy.
You should be able to paddle at a gentle pace in a shared kayak and later sit in a 4x4 on sand tracks.
Inform your guide of injuries or health concerns before launch so they can advise on participation.
Cape fur seals surround the kayaks at Pelican Point, and dolphins sometimes appear in the lagoon channel.
Afternoon wildlife on the dune drive can include ostrich, jackal, and seabirds where the desert meets the ocean.
Double kayaks mean you paddle with a partner, which suits friends, couples, or parent teen teams.
Guides give a clear paddle briefing on shore before launch, including how to use the provided flotation vests and spray gear.
