Introductory sessions are designed specifically for swimmers who are new to open water and want to build confidence in a safe and supportive environment.
Participants should bring equipment appropriate for their comfort zone and weather and lake conditions.
Tow floats are encouraged for Intro to Open Water sessions, and may be required at certain locations or during larger group sessions for visibility and safety.
Depending on the location, you may explore sheltered bays, larger lake crossings, or sections of water that provide ideal conditions for specific coaching objectives. Water safety, environmental awareness, and understanding changing conditions form an important part of every session, helping swimmers become more confident and independent in open water.
Both group workshops and private coaching options are available.
Private sessions can be tailored entirely to your individual goals, whether that involves stroke development, training for an event or goal, building fitness, or simply becoming more comfortable swimming outdoors.
Sessions take place across several of the Lake District's most popular swimming locations, including Fell Foot on Windermere, Bassenthwaite, Ullswater, and Coniston. Each venue offers different conditions and characteristics, allowing coaching to be matched to the aims of the session and the experience level of participants.
Surrounded by mountains, woodland, and open water, these locations provide excellent opportunities to learn and practise outdoor swimming skills. From calm sheltered areas ideal for newcomers to larger expanses of water suited to endurance training, the variety available within the Lake District makes it one of the UK's leading destinations for open water swimming.
We cater for swimmers of all levels, speeds and experiences.
Participants should bring equipment appropriate for the conditions and their ability.
Tow floats may be required at certain locations or during larger group sessions for visibility and safety.
Wetsuits & neoprene boots and gloves are optional and entirely the choice of the participant.
We know the Lake District inside out. Niamh has spent over 16 years swimming in the lakes, training for different distances and events, including triathlons, and later retrained to become a swimming teacher & open water coach to share her passion for swimming outdoors and sports performance development.
Our coaching is built on practical experience through different types of swimming and through experience as a Level 2 swimming teacher, coach, and coach in other sports.
Coaching is built around practical outdoor experience and a belief that confidence develops through supportive, realistic learning. Every session focuses on helping swimmers understand their environment, improve their technique, and enjoy open water safely while progressing towards their personal goals.
Small group sizes allow plenty of individual attention, while private coaching provides fully personalised instruction. Whether you're taking your first steps into open water or preparing for an endurance event, sessions are designed to provide useful skills that continue to benefit your swimming long after the session has ended.
