You'll have Essaouira's wide Atlantic beach, the dunes, and the forest behind Diabat almost to yourselves. This is a private ride for your group, two or three hours long, in the morning, afternoon, or as the sun goes down. Your horse is chosen for how you ride, so the pace can build once everyone is settled.
You'll leave the riverside yard in a helmet and follow the river out of the village until the sand opens up. The beach is wide and usually empty, so there is room to trot or canter when the group is ready, then turn into eucalyptus and mimosa when you want a change of footing. A guide stays with your party only. If you want pickup, they collect you from a hotel in or near the medina first.
Two hours is a satisfying loop of beach and woodland. Three hours gives you longer on the sand, and sunset uses the same ground in warmer light. You come back to the yard to dismount, then the same vehicle drops you at your hotel if you came that way.
The stables sit by the river in Diabat, a small village about three kilometres from Essaouira. Beach, dunes, and forest are right there, so most of the time you booked is spent riding.
Once you leave the town edge the shore feels open and quiet, with room to move. The woodland behind the beach breaks up the wind and gives the ride a different feel from a straight canter along the water.
You need some riding experience for this outing. Horses are matched to how you sit, and the pace can rise to a canter when the whole group is ready.
Riders must be at least 10 years old and no more than 85 kg. Wear long trousers and closed shoes such as trainers. Shorts, skirts, djellabas, and flip-flops are not allowed.
Sophie looks after bookings in French and English, and Najib grew up on this coast. Together with a small guide team they have run rides from this Diabat yard since 2006, and they know which stretch of beach is quiet on a given day.
Your group is never mixed with another party, and twelve is the cap so the line stays easy to enjoy. Helmets come from the yard, horses are picked for how you ride, and hotel pickup from the medina is included.
A driver can collect you from a hotel in or near the Essaouira medina, or you arrive at the Diabat stables beside the river. At the yard you meet your horse, fit a helmet, and get a feel for the loop ahead.
You ride the river path out of the village, then onto empty beach and through the dunes and forest. The pace stays with your group, from a walk to a canter when everyone is ready.
You return to the yard to dismount and hand back the helmet. The same vehicle drops you at your hotel if you used pickup, with time to brush off the sand before the rest of the day.
You can meet at the riverside stables in Diabat, about 3 km from Essaouira, or use the included hotel pickup from a stay inside or near the medina. The drive from town is short, so you are not spending the outing on the road.
If you make your own way, a taxi from the medina is enough. Arrive dressed for the saddle, with long trousers and closed shoes, so you can mount as soon as the horses are ready.
You can start at the riverside stables in Diabat, about three kilometres from Essaouira. Hotel pickup from a stay inside or near the medina is included if you would rather be collected.
A short taxi from town is enough if you make your own way. Arrive a little early so there is time to meet the horses and settle before you leave the yard.
You choose two hours or three. Morning and afternoon follow the same kind of loop, and sunset uses that ground in later light.
Two hours is a full taste of beach and forest. Three hours gives you longer on the sand and more time to enjoy the pace.
Yes. This outing is for people who already sit a horse. The pace can rise once the group is settled in the saddle.
If you already ride well, you can ask for a livelier stretch. Because the outing is private, the guide does not have to hold everyone to a walk.
Riders need to be at least 10 years old and no more than 85 kg. Anyone under eighteen should come with a responsible adult.
These limits are there so we can match a suitable horse. If someone is close to the weight limit, it is worth saying so before the day.
Your booking stays a private group of 2 to 12 riders. You will not be mixed with another party on the same ride.
Pairs still meet the two person minimum. Families and friends who book together keep the guide and the horses to themselves.
Wear long trousers and closed-toe shoes such as trainers. Shorts, skirts, djellabas, and flip-flops are not allowed on safety grounds.
Bring sun protection and a light layer for wind on the beach. Helmets wait at the yard, so you do not need to pack your own unless you prefer to.
Yes. Pickup and drop-off from a hotel inside or near the Essaouira medina are part of the booking. The driver can find you if you share the hotel name.
Stays well outside town may sit outside that zone. Mention the area of your accommodation if you are unsure.
Sophie and the guides work in French and English. Several guides also speak Arabic and Berber.
If your group is mixed, pick the language everyone can follow for the briefing. That way the safety talk at the yard is clear before you mount.
Everyday coastal wind is normal here and rides usually go ahead. If the beach or the forest is unsafe, the team will get in touch to move the session.
Keep your phone on for the day of the ride. A request is only held once it has been accepted.
You send a request for your date, length, and whether you want morning, afternoon, or sunset. Sophie is usually quick to reply and confirm.
Wait for that confirmation before you treat the time as booked. If your first choice is full, another session on the same day may still be open.
