A three-hour guided trek introduces you to one of Felanitx’s most unusual natural sites: an abandoned marés stone quarry tucked away behind an unassuming industrial area. The route is easy, accessible, and full of surprises, offering a chance to explore tunnels, rock formations, and hidden corners that most visitors never see. It’s an experience designed for all ages and a great option for anyone looking to discover a different side of the island.
The walk begins at the meeting point near the sports centre, where your guide will outline the route and provide a brief introduction to the area’s history. Within minutes, the industrial surroundings give way to a surprising landscape carved out by decades of marés stone extraction. The wide entry paths quickly narrow into a network of corridors, open chambers, and sculpted walls that create a maze-like environment unlike any other in the region.
As you make your way through the quarry, the atmosphere shifts from bright open spaces to cool, shadowed passages. These natural and man-made tunnels vary in size, and you’ll have time to explore features such as carved alcoves, weathered archways, and pockets of vegetation reclaiming the site. Children particularly enjoy the sense of discovery, while adults often appreciate the geological textures and the quiet, otherworldly character of the place. The pace of the tour remains gentle throughout, allowing plenty of time for photos and short stops.
Felanitx sits in the south-east of Mallorca and is known for its mix of rural landscapes, cultural heritage, and lesser-known natural areas. This quarry exists just on the edge of town yet feels far removed from everyday life. The contrast between its industrial origins and the almost fairytale-like shapes of the carved stone makes it a fascinating location for a relaxed half-day adventure.
Because the site is partially hidden, it’s easy to miss without a guide. Its position close to main roads and parking areas makes access straightforward, and the surrounding area includes additional walking trails and viewpoints for those wanting to extend their day in Felanitx.
A basic level of mobility is sufficient for this route. The paths are mainly flat, although some sections involve stepping over uneven stone or entering slightly narrower passages. No prior trekking experience is required, making it accessible to families, first-time walkers, and those who prefer shorter excursions.
Participants should bring comfortable shoes, water, sun protection, and a small backpack. Children remain the responsibility of their parents, and younger participants will benefit from taking the walk at a relaxed pace. All technical equipment required for the route is provided.

Yes, this experience is suitable for children and is often a favourite due to the tunnels, caves, and “hidden world” atmosphere of the quarry. The environment naturally inspires curiosity and makes the walk engaging for younger explorers.
Parents must take responsibility for their children at all times, especially when moving through narrow passages or rocky areas. Informing the team in advance if children under 12 are joining helps ensure the guide can prepare the activity appropriately.
Comfortable sports clothing and closed footwear with good grip are recommended. The route offers some shaded and enclosed areas, but temperatures in Mallorca can still vary, so a light layer is useful throughout the year.
Participants should bring water, a small backpack, sun protection, and any personal items they may need. A towel or extra layer may also be helpful if conditions are humid inside the quarry areas.
Light clouds or mild heat generally do not affect this activity, as portions of the route offer natural shade and shelter. However, if strong rain or unsafe conditions are forecast, the team will contact you in advance to discuss rescheduling.
Safety is always prioritised. The guide assesses the environment carefully before confirming the activity and will only proceed if the quarry and surrounding paths remain safe to access.
