Whether you're curious about archery or looking for a new activity to enjoy, these beginner-friendly sessions provide an enjoyable introduction to the sport. With expert coaching, small group sizes, and plenty of time on the shooting line, it's an ideal way to learn the fundamentals in a relaxed setting.
After arriving at the indoor range, you'll be introduced to your instructor and fellow participants before being fitted with the appropriate equipment. A short safety briefing covers everything you need to know before stepping onto the shooting line, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and confident before the session begins.
Once the introduction is complete, you'll be guided through the fundamentals of shooting a recurve bow. Demonstrations are broken down into simple steps, covering how to hold the bow, position your body, draw the string correctly, and release an arrow smoothly. Throughout the lesson, instructors provide individual coaching and practical tips to help improve consistency and accuracy.
Most of the session is spent actively shooting, allowing plenty of opportunities to put new skills into practice. The small group format means more personal attention and less waiting between rounds. As confidence grows, you'll be introduced to basic scoring before finishing the lesson with a light-hearted competition that adds a fun challenge to the experience.
Archery sessions take place at an indoor venue in the Archway area of North London, providing a comfortable year-round environment for learning and practising the sport. The indoor setting allows beginners to focus on technique without having to worry about changing weather conditions.
Reaching the venue is straightforward thanks to excellent transport connections. Archway Underground Station is only a short walk away, while Crouch Hill Overground station is also nearby. A wide range of bus routes serve the surrounding area, making the venue easily accessible from across London.
No prior experience is required, making these sessions suitable for anyone interested in trying archery for the first time. Coaches provide guidance throughout, ensuring beginners can learn at a comfortable pace while developing confidence with the equipment.
Participants must be aged 10 or above. Those under 18 are welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian, and younger participants must shoot alongside an adult who is also taking part in the session.
Sharing archery with new participants has been the focus here for many years, with sessions designed to be welcoming, informative, and enjoyable from start to finish. Small groups help create a friendly atmosphere where everyone receives individual attention and plenty of shooting time.
Coaching is led by experienced instructors including Leander, who has spent more than 14 years helping people develop their archery skills. His extensive coaching background, combined with years of competitive shooting experience, ensures participants receive practical guidance from someone who understands how to make learning both accessible and rewarding.
Absolutely. These sessions are specifically designed for people with little or no previous experience. Every part of the lesson is explained clearly, allowing newcomers to learn the basics in a supportive environment.
From your first arrow to your final round, instructors are on hand to offer guidance and help you build confidence throughout the session.
Group sizes are kept small, with a maximum of six participants per session. This allows instructors to spend more time with each person and provide personalised coaching where needed.
The smaller format also means more opportunities to shoot and practise your technique rather than spending time waiting for your turn.
All archery equipment needed for the session is included. This includes a recurve bow, arrows, and access to the range and targets.
There is no need to bring any specialist equipment, making it easy for first-time archers to take part without additional preparation.
Comfortable clothing that allows unrestricted movement is recommended. Clothing with very loose sleeves should generally be avoided as it can interfere with the bowstring.
Flat footwear is ideal for standing comfortably while shooting. As the activity takes place indoors, weather-specific clothing is not necessary.
Yes. Alongside learning how to shoot, you'll also receive a simple introduction to scoring. This helps you understand how points are awarded and how target archery is typically structured.
Towards the end of the lesson, you'll have the opportunity to put these skills into practice during a friendly competition.
Children aged 10 and above can take part when accompanied by an adult who is also participating in the session. This helps maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone on the range.
A parent or guardian must attend for anyone under the age of 18.
