Explore the peaks and forest trails of Serra Malagueta Natural Park on a guided nature hike through one of Santiago Island's most beautiful highland areas. You'll pass dramatic viewpoints, walk shaded paths among endemic plants, and enjoy panoramic mountain scenery with a local guide who knows the park's ecology and history.
Your guide collects you and drives towards the highlands, with photo stops at the Órgãos twin peaks and Alto Babosa viewpoint overlooking Picos. A short pause in Assomada gives a taste of local town life before you reach Serra Malagueta Natural Park for the main hiking section.
On the trail you'll walk through green forest and open ridges with regular stops for photos and stories about the park's flora, fauna and conservation. The outing finishes with drop-off back at your accommodation, usually around three hours after pickup.
Serra Malagueta Natural Park protects a cloud forest zone in the central highlands of Santiago Island, Cabo Verde's largest island. Rising above 1,000 metres in places, the park is home to endemic plants and birds found nowhere else in the archipelago.
The surrounding area mixes terraced agriculture, scattered villages and dramatic ridges that offer some of the finest walking on the island. Cooler temperatures and greener landscapes make a refreshing contrast to the coastal capital Praia.
No previous hiking experience is required. The route is graded easy and the guide sets a comfortable pace with plenty of stops along the way.
Wear sturdy shoes with good grip, bring sun protection and carry water. If you have mobility concerns, mention this when booking so the team can advise on suitability.
You'll walk with guides who know Serra Malagueta's trails and can share insights about the park's unique ecology and rural communities nearby. Pickup and drop-off where included remove the hassle of reaching the trailhead.
Group sizes stay small enough for a personal experience, balancing scenic viewpoints, forest walking and genuine local knowledge into a half-day outing.
Pickup from your accommodation can be arranged where applicable. Confirm your address when booking so the guide knows where to meet you.
