Point Lenana is the walking summit on this four day Sirimon push, from a Nairobi hotel pickup to alpine camps and back. You sleep at Old Moses Camp and Shipton Camp, then start before dawn for the ridge. The walking is long and high, not a short forest overnight.
The 03:00 start on summit morning is the hard centre of the trip, but the days before it matter. Day one is the drive north and a forest walk from Sirimon Gate to Old Moses Camp at 3,300 metres. Day two contours the moorland rivers into Mackinders Valley and overnight at Shipton Camp at 4,200 metres. You gain height steadily so the dark quarry path is not your first hour on the mountain.
Summit day leaves Shipton at 03:00, aims for Point Lenana around 06:30, then drops all the way back to Old Moses the same afternoon: nine to ten hours and about 21 kilometres. Day four is the rainforest walk out to the vehicle and the road south to Nairobi, with a hotel drop-off. This is a summit itinerary, not the two day Chogoria Bandas trip.
North-west of the mountain, Sirimon Gate sits above Nanyuki. The track climbs from forest into heath, then into open moorland with views up Mackinders Valley towards the main peaks.
Point Lenana is the trekking summit at 4,985 metres. Batian and Nelion sit higher and need rock climbing; these four days do not attempt those faces. You start and finish in Nairobi, with the mountain time spent on the Sirimon trail and its two camps.
Solid hill fitness and comfort with long days at altitude are required. Day two is six to seven hours and 14 kilometres. Summit day is nine to ten hours, starting in the dark on steep, stony ground. This is not a first walk on a mountain.
The minimum age is 21. If you have heart, lung, or knee limits, or you have never slept above 3,000 metres, ask the team before you travel. Previous camping and cold nights help; technical climbing skill is not required for Lenana.
Drivers and guides who work in several languages keep the road ends and the 03:00 quarry path honest. The days follow a clear Sirimon spine: Old Moses, Shipton, Lenana, then the same gate out, with pickup and drop-off in Nairobi.
A team schooled in tourism and wildlife affairs has spent years shaping mountain days around the time you actually have. You walk as a group of up to 15, not a large expedition column.
You are collected from your Nairobi hotel at 07:00 and drive north to Nanyuki for lunch, about four hours on the road. After lunch you continue to Sirimon Gate at 2,440 metres. The track then winds uphill through forest that opens into heath. About three and a half hours from the gate you veer right to Judmier Camp, also called Old Moses Camp, at 3,300 metres for dinner and overnight. The walk is about 9 kilometres with 860 metres of ascent. Take the afternoon slowly and drink water as you gain height.
After breakfast you follow the track uphill, forking left at the junction. About an hour from Old Moses the path crosses the Ontulili River. You contour right through moorland, cross Liki North, and climb into Mackinders Valley, with wide views towards the main peaks. Dinner and overnight are at Shipton Camp at 4,200 metres. The day is six to seven hours and about 14 kilometres, with 900 metres of ascent. Meals are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
You leave at 03:00 up a steep stony quarry that cuts through a cliff towards the lower Hall Tarns. The aim is Point Lenana around 06:30, about three hours in the dark. After sunrise you descend two hours to Shipton for breakfast, then continue about four hours down to Old Moses Camp for dinner and overnight. The day is nine to ten hours and about 21 kilometres. Carry a torch, warm layers, and your own snacks for the dark hours.
After breakfast you walk down through the rainforest for about two hours, covering 9 kilometres back to Sirimon Gate. The vehicle meets you there for the road south to Nairobi and a drop-off at your hotel. This is a descent day, but the forest can be wet and the drive is long, so keep a buffer before an evening flight.
You are collected from your hotel or residence in Nairobi at 07:00. Be in the lobby with bags ready so the drive to Nanyuki can leave on time. Spare city luggage can stay in the vehicle while you are on the mountain.
Day four walks you back to Sirimon Gate and the same vehicle returns you to your Nairobi hotel. Keep a wide buffer before an evening flight; the rainforest walk out and city traffic can stretch the afternoon.
No. This itinerary is the walking route to Point Lenana, the trekking summit at 4,985 metres. Batian and Nelion are technical rock climbs and are not part of these four days.
You still gain serious height and spend two nights above 3,000 metres. Pack for a long alpine walk, not a rock route.
Day one is a road transfer plus three to four hours and 9 kilometres from Sirimon Gate to Old Moses, with about 860 metres of ascent. Day two is six to seven hours and 14 kilometres to Shipton Camp, another 900 metres up.
Summit day is nine to ten hours and about 21 kilometres, leaving at 03:00. You need hill legs and a calm head in the dark. Day four is a shorter 9 kilometre descent to the gate.
Night one and night three are at Judmier Camp, also called Old Moses Camp, at 3,300 metres. Night two is at Shipton Camp at 4,200 metres. These are mountain camps, not Nairobi hotels.
Bring a warm sleeping bag and a torch. Nights are cold, and the huts are simple shared spaces.
You leave Shipton around 03:00, climbing a steep stony quarry towards Hall Tarns. The aim is Point Lenana around 06:30, then breakfast back at Shipton and a long drop to Old Moses the same day.
Carry a head torch and warm layers for the dark hours. The path is rough underfoot and the air is thin.
Travellers need to be at least 21. The long summit day and the nights at 4,200 metres are not a fit for younger walkers on this product.
If you are travelling as a group, check every passport age before you travel so names match the mountain permits.
The two day trip stays on the Chogoria side, sleeps at the Bandas, and walks to the road head around 3,300 metres. It does not go to Point Lenana.
These four days use the Sirimon Gate, Old Moses, and Shipton, and they include the pre-dawn summit. Choose this trip if you want the trekking peak.
Day one includes lunch in Nanyuki and dinner at Old Moses. Days two and three are breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the mountain. Day four starts with breakfast before the walk out.
Ask the team before you travel if you need a vegetarian or other simple diet. Carry a few of your own snacks for the 03:00 start.
You do not need to have climbed this mountain before, but you should be used to long hill days and cold camps. The jump from Nairobi to 4,200 metres in two days is real.
Drink water, keep the pace steady, and tell the guide if a headache or nausea starts. The team may slow a day if someone is struggling.
Cloud, wind, and frost are common on the upper mountain. The team may change the summit start or turn around if the quarry is unsafe.
If the mountain cannot be walked, the team will be in touch about moving the days. Pack waterproofs and warm layers in every month.
Pickup is from your hotel or residence in Nairobi at 07:00. Have bags at reception so the vehicle can leave for Nanyuki on time.
The same vehicle meets you at Sirimon Gate on day four and returns you to your Nairobi hotel. Send the hotel name before you travel.
