During the session, you will paddle along the scenic River Cherwell, guided by an experienced and qualified instructor. The route includes passing by historic colleges, traditional pubs, and renowned parks, providing a unique way to experience Oxford's landmarks. A highlight of the session is the chance to take a refreshing dip in the water – an enjoyable part of the adventure for many participants.
You will receive comprehensive instruction on using an iSUP board, including paddling techniques and safety measures. The boards are stable, making it easy for beginners to learn and for experienced paddlers to enjoy. The session includes stops at scenic spots, offering opportunities to relax, take photos, and enjoy the natural surroundings.
No prior experience is required, making this activity suitable for beginners. Participants must be at least 8 years old.
Under 18s can join if a parent or guardian stays during the session or arranges to drop off and pick up.
Our sessions are led by Charles, a qualified Winter Mountain Leader, Paddlesport Leader, and Bushcraft Instructor with over a decade of experience. Having worked as a teacher, Head of Adventure Learning, and Senior Leader for the British Exploring Society, Charles brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to each adventure. Enhanced DBS checked and certified in Safeguarding and First Aid, you can trust in his expertise and commitment to safety.
Charles's passion for outdoor adventures is evident from his extensive experience, including six expeditions in the Amazon jungle and his ongoing project to descend every significant river in the UK. With stories to share and a love for wild places, Charles ensures a memorable and engaging experience for all participants.
For the paddling session, wear comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor activities.
Recommended items include trainers, sandals, or flip-flops, swim shorts or leggings, a T-shirt or gym top, and a warm layer.
For winter trips, a wetsuit is advisable. Additionally, bring a spare change of clothes in case you get wet, and a towel for drying off afterwards.
No prior paddling experience is required. The session is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for beginners.
Our experienced and qualified instructor will provide comprehensive guidance on using the iSUP board and paddling techniques, ensuring you feel confident and safe throughout the activity.
Falling in the water is not uncommon and is considered part of the fun! The boards are very stable, but if you do happen to fall in, it's easy to get back on.
The session includes time to dry off and change into spare clothes if needed. The River Cherwell is safe, with many families and adults paddling and swimming in it regularly.
Yes, children aged 8 and above are welcome to join the paddling session. Under 18s can be dropped off by a parent or guardian, who can choose to stay for the duration of the session or return at the end.
