Window seats face the Everest skyline on a dawn mountain flight from Kathmandu, in a fixed-wing aircraft with large windows. You'll fly at about 25,000 feet for about 50 to 60 minutes, with a crew member naming the summits as you pass. We'll collect you from your hotel and handle the airport transfers both ways.
The aircraft leaves Kathmandu around 6:30 after a 5:30 check-in at the international airport. We'll collect you from your hotel in the dark so you reach the desk with your passport ready.
The usual line flies over Lukla, Namche Bazaar, and the Everest Base Camp approach. On a clear morning Everest sits on the horizon at 8,848 metres, with the neighbouring 8,000-metre peaks in the same chain. A crew member names the summits as you pass so you know which window to look through.
Most flights are back on the ground by about 8:30, and we'll drive you to your hotel in time for breakfast. The morning depends on clear mountain weather; if cloud sits on the hills, we'll work with you on a new departure.
The east wall of high peaks holds Everest, and the aircraft turns that way from Tribhuvan International Airport on the edge of Kathmandu. From the window you look down on the same valleys that lead to Lukla and Namche when you trek.
Kathmandu sits in a bowl; the aircraft climbs out of that haze into colder, clearer air. On the return you drop back over the valley and land at the same terminal you left from, usually before the city is fully awake.
You do not need flying experience. You should be comfortable sitting in a small passenger aircraft for about an hour and following the crew's seatbelt brief.
The minimum age is 2. Every passenger needs a valid passport. Tell us if you are travelling with an infant so we can plan seating. The morning depends on clear mountain weather.
Dawn departures leave from a Lazimpat desk that has been placing guests on these morning flights for more than two decades. We'll handle the ticket and the hotel transfer so you are at check-in by 5:30 with your passport in hand.
English-speaking guides stay with the airport run. If cloud sits on the hills, we'll work with you on a new departure rather than leaving you at the terminal without a plan.
We'll collect you from your Kathmandu hotel and drive you to Tribhuvan International Airport. Check-in is around 5:30. Keep your passport ready for the desk and for security.
