What to Expect
Your session begins with a safety briefing and introduction to the equipment before moving on to the basics of climbing technique and rope handling. Under the guidance of qualified instructors, you'll be supported as you take on a series of climbing routes. These are selected based on your ability, with options suitable for beginners and those with a bit more experience.
After climbing, the group will tackle one or two abseils down the quarry face, learning how to control descent and build trust in the equipment. The session is paced to suit the group and focuses on confidence, communication, and skill development in a supportive environment. All kit is provided, and the emphasis is on safety and encouragement throughout.

The session takes place at Blackford Quarry, just south of central Edinburgh on Blackford Glen Road. The quarry is part of a nature-rich area close to Blackford Hill and the Hermitage of Braid, offering a scenic and quiet spot for outdoor activities while still being close to the city.
Parking is available along Blackford Glen Road — you’ll be asked to drive as far up as possible and use the spaces on the left-hand side. The meeting point is within walking distance of the parking area, and detailed directions are provided after booking. The quarry offers varied routes in a sheltered location, making it suitable for all levels.
