Complete the legendary Carros de Foc circuit through Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park on a 7-day guided hut-to-hut adventure. Trek between remote mountain refuges, cross high passes, pass countless glacial lakes and collect official refuge stamps as you complete one of Europe’s most iconic multi-day treks.
Led by a qualified UIMLA International Mountain Leader, you’ll tackle around 60 km of spectacular mountain terrain, with the option to summit Montardo (2,764m) before descending to Espot to celebrate completing the circuit.
This is an advanced hut-to-hut trek with around 60 km of walking and up to 4,000 m of total ascent across the week. You should be comfortable with consecutive full days on steep, rocky mountain paths and carrying a day pack in variable weather.
Prior multi-day trekking experience is strongly recommended. If you regularly complete long hill days in the UK or abroad and recover well overnight, you are likely in the right range. If you are unsure, speak to the team before booking.
Carros de Foc is famous for its refuge stamp tradition. Along the circuit you collect stamps at each mountain refuge on the official pass included in your package. Completing all seven stamps is the recognised way to finish the full challenge.
Successful finishers can claim official finisher items such as a T-shirt, wristband and route map through the Carros de Foc organisation. Your guide helps you plan each stage so stamp collection fits naturally into the daily route.
The trip includes four nights in mountain refuges along the Carros de Foc circuit and two hotel nights at the start and end of the week. Refuge accommodation is basic and shared, typical of hut-to-hut trekking in the Pyrenees.
Hotels provide a more comfortable base before and after the main circuit. All accommodation for your departure is arranged for you, so you can focus on the walking rather than booking each night separately.
Yes, all meals during the trip are included from arrival in the Pyrenees through to breakfast on departure day. This covers breakfasts, packed lunches on trekking days and evening meals at huts and hotels as available on each stage.
Let the team know about dietary requirements when you book so they can pass these to refuges and hotels in advance. Personal snacks, drinks and any extra food outside the included meals are not covered.
Group pickup from Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) is included on Day 1, and return transfer to BCN is included on Day 7. You should book flights that allow time for baggage collection and group coordination on arrival.
Final meeting times depend on the group's flight schedule and are confirmed nearer departure. Flights themselves are not included in the price, and you are responsible for arranging travel to and from Barcelona.
You need broken-in mountain boots suitable for T4 rocky terrain, waterproof jacket and trousers, warm layers, a 30 to 40 litre day pack, trekking poles, head torch and sun protection. A lightweight hut kit with sleepwear, earplugs and a small towel is also essential.
A full kit list is sent after booking. Sleeping bags are often required in refuges depending on the season, so check the pre-departure information carefully and ask if you are unsure about any item.
Mountain weather in the Pyrenees can change quickly, and your UIMLA guide may adjust the route or pacing if conditions require it. Safety always comes first, and alternative plans may be used if a high pass or optional summit is not suitable.
Departures in summer months generally offer favourable conditions for high mountain trekking, but you should still pack for rain, wind and cold temperatures at altitude. Flexible clothing layers are important throughout the week.
Yes, you must hold suitable travel insurance that covers multi-day trekking in mountainous terrain, including helicopter rescue if required. Check that your policy covers the activities and altitudes involved and that it is valid in Spain.
Personal insurance is not included in the package price. Keep your policy details and emergency contact numbers accessible throughout the trip and share any relevant medical information with your guide at the start.
You pay a deposit at checkout to secure your place, with the balance due 60 days before departure. Payment details and deadlines are confirmed in your booking confirmation email after you reserve.
The listed price is per person based on shared accommodation. If you have questions about payment timing or need an invoice for your records, contact the team after booking.
This is a small-group guided departure designed for experienced hikers who want a supported hut-to-hut week. Final group size depends on bookings for your chosen departure.
If you are booking as an individual, you join a group of like-minded trekkers rather than a private trip. Contact the team if you are interested in a private departure or have questions about how the group is formed.
