This is a weather-dependent canyon day. Guides may adjust the route or abseils if water levels or conditions change. Expect to get fully wet and to wear shoes that can handle water and rock.
Please share height, weight, and any medical notes at booking so kit and pacing can be planned safely.
Spend a full canyon day in Manikia Gorge on Evia, learning abseiling skills before descending a series of waterfalls and swimming through clear natural pools. Certified guides keep groups small so you can focus on technique, scenery, and a safe, paced adventure.
You start with a short abseiling briefing, then move through the gorge with guided descents, river travel, and swims in natural pools. The day builds towards longer abseils and finishes with the standout final waterfall when conditions allow.
Manikia sits in the green heart of Evia, roughly a two-hour journey from Athens. The gorge is known for waterfalls, clear pools, and a wild feel that still works as a well-supported day adventure.
Local cooperative guides specialise in small-group canyon days with clear coaching, quality kit, and routes chosen for scenery as much as challenge. You get real time outdoors, not a rushed tick-box tour.
Meet in Manikia, 340 16, Evia, unless you have booked an optional Athens hotel pickup. Allow about two hours of travel from Athens and arrive ready to change into canyon kit.
Exact pin and timing are confirmed after booking. If you are driving yourself, plan parking near the village meeting point and bring a change of dry clothes for afterwards.
No previous canyoning experience is required. Guides begin with a focused abseiling briefing so you learn the key techniques before entering the full gorge sequence.
If you are new to ropes, say so at the start. Coaching is paced for mixed ability groups and the shorter practice abseils come before the bigger waterfall.
You need everyday outdoor fitness rather than elite training. Expect walking on uneven ground, short scrambles, swimming between pools, and controlled abseils with guide support.
If you can hike for a few hours and are comfortable in water, you are usually fine. Mention any injuries or limited mobility when you book so the team can advise honestly.
The minimum age is 10. Younger guests are not accepted on this Manikia gorge route because of abseil height, water sections, and the need to follow safety instructions closely.
Families with older children often enjoy it as a shared challenge. Adults should be ready to support younger participants with encouragement while guides handle the technical coaching.
Bring a swimsuit, towel, wettable athletic shoes, a hat, dry clothes, and at least 1.5 litres of water. Leave valuables you cannot afford to soak.
Technical kit is provided. Pack light but practical, and wear clothing you are happy to get wet underneath your wetsuit if needed.
The classic route builds towards that standout abseil when conditions allow. Guides assess water flow, group confidence, and weather before committing to each descent.
If conditions change, they may adjust the sequence while still delivering a full canyon experience with pools, shorter abseils, and scenery.
The canyoning activity itself is around four hours. Travel from Athens to Manikia typically adds about two hours each way if you are coming from the city.
Plan a full day rather than squeezing it between other commitments. Optional pickup and lunch packages, where booked, extend the overall schedule.
Canyoning is sensitive to rain and water levels. If conditions are unsafe, the team may postpone, reroute, or cancel in line with the free-cancellation window.
You will be contacted as early as possible. Do not travel to the gorge if you have been told the session cannot run.
Mild nerves are common and guides coach you step by step on shorter abseils first. A complete inability to leave an edge with support may mean this activity is not the right fit.
Talk through your concerns before the day. Honest communication helps the guide decide whether Manikia is suitable for you.
Guides often capture moments when it is safe to do so, but photo service is not guaranteed as a formal deliverable on every departure.
Protect your own camera or phone in a dry bag if you bring one, and prioritise hands-free movement when moving through technical sections.
You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before the activity start time. Cancellations inside 24 hours may not be refunded.
If weather or safety forces a provider cancellation, you will be offered the options available for that booking under the same policy framework.
