Explore one of Mallorca’s wildest canyon descents in the Mortitx Ravine, complete with natural slides, 12m jumps, and a 20m rappel. End your adventure with either a coastal boat pick-up or a technical climb out via ferrata.
Key Details
- Location: Mortitx Ravine, near Pollença
- Level: Improver/Expert
- Total duration: 7 to 9 hours (route dependent)
- Minimum age: 14
What to Expect
This experience starts with a 1.5-hour approach walk through dramatic limestone landscapes in northern Mallorca. After a full kit-up and safety briefing, you’ll descend into Mortitx Ravine—an adventurous canyon featuring narrow walls, smooth natural slides, jumps up to 12 metres, and a 20-metre vertical rappel. The route is entirely off the beaten path, offering a proper challenge in remote surroundings.
At the end of the canyon, you’ll choose one of two exit options:
- Boat Pick-Up: This is the most straightforward and scenic option. After completing the descent, you’ll be collected by boat directly from the coast and transported to Cala Molins, Cala Sant Vicenç, or Pollença. The total activity time for this option is around 5–6 hours. The boat pick-up is included in the price if this option is selected at booking.
- Via Ferrata Exit: For a tougher finish, you’ll follow a climb-out route involving a basic ferrata with fixed anchors and 250m of ascent. This adds approximately 2.5–3 hours to the day, making it 8–9 hours in total. This option is more physical and better suited to those with good endurance and previous experience with exposed terrain.
Location
Mortitx is tucked into the eastern side of the Tramuntana Mountains near Pollença, an area shaped by limestone cliffs and millennia of erosion. The terrain is dry, dramatic, and far removed from the built-up coastline, making this one of the most rugged and untouched parts of the island.
You'll access the canyon via rural mountain tracks, with the meeting location and return logistics depending on the chosen exit. A car combination is needed for the via ferrata option, while the boat pick-up returns you directly to the coast. Either way, the setting guarantees a memorable adventure.
Prerequisites
This activity is for experienced canyoners or those with strong rope skills and confidence in technical terrain. It’s not suitable for first-timers or anyone unsure of their ability to manage exposed climbs, jumps, or sustained activity.
You’ll need good overall fitness, confidence in water, and the ability to handle a mix of scrambling, abseiling, and rugged movement through slippery and uneven terrain.
