The BC Paddle Sport Leader Assessment is designed for paddlers who are looking to take the next step in their paddling journey by becoming qualified to lead groups in sheltered water environments. This assessment recognises the capability to safely guide mixed craft adventures, enhancing the leader's versatility and effectiveness in various paddling disciplines.
Successful candidates will be awarded the BC Paddle Sport Leader Award, recognising their ability to lead safe and enjoyable paddling trips in sheltered waters.
This assessment is crucial for paddlers looking to transition into leadership roles within clubs, outdoor centres, and other organisations. It provides the skills and certification needed to conduct paddlesport activities safely and effectively, enhancing the overall quality of paddling instruction and leadership within the community.
Candidates should possess a thorough understanding of paddlesport fundamentals and have experience paddling in the craft they wish to lead. Additionally, a valid first aid certificate and completion of safeguarding training are required. You can book our comprehensive training for this assessment at the bottom of this page.
No formal Personal Performance Award or Safety Award requirements are necessary. However, we recommend holding the Paddle Explore Award (or equivalent) to enhance your experience during the 2-day assessment. It is crucial to feel comfortable paddling independently on calm water to effectively evaluate your leadership skills.

The entire day was excellent. Everyone was exceptionally friendly and our teacher Robin went above and beyond for us. A really fun day and would recommend to anyone.

The course was excellent from start to finish, anyone that’s into boating or thinking about boating try this course. It has gave me the skills and confidence to buy my own boat and drive it comfortably on both the lakes and sea. Excellent value for money.

Power Boat Level 2 with Robin and Mat . Great course- loads of practical experience on the water in 2 Ribs . Heavy emphasis on safety and handling skills . Good theory too in the classroom. Thanks guys!
