Unleash your inner Viking with this 1-hour axe throwing experience in Tunbridge Wells, where you'll get hands-on with both the Tomahawk and traditional throwing axe. Whether you're new to it or have tried it before, this is a fast-paced, competitive activity that's perfect for groups looking to try something different together.
Your session starts with a full safety briefing led by one of our experienced instructors, covering everything from range rules to proper axe handling. You’ll be kitted out with all necessary safety gear before heading onto the range, where you’ll get your first feel for the Tomahawk. With guidance, you'll quickly learn how to grip, aim and throw safely and effectively – giving you a solid foundation to build on throughout the session.
Once you’ve got the basics down, you’ll move on to our traditional throwing axe – slightly heavier and more challenging but very satisfying once you land that first solid throw. Your instructor will stay with your group throughout, offering tips and introducing a variety of target games and challenges to keep things competitive. Expect a lively, social atmosphere as everyone tries to beat the scoreboard and maybe even hit the bullseye before time's up.
The venue is based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, with easy access from surrounding areas including Tonbridge and Crowborough. It's set up to provide a safe but exciting outdoor-style range, with multiple lanes so group members can throw side by side.
Ample parking is available on-site, and the venue is well signposted once you get close. Whether you’re arriving by car or arranging group transport, it’s a straightforward journey and makes for a great half-day out from London or the wider Kent area.
All participants must wear closed-toe shoes – no sandals, flip-flops or open footwear allowed. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult for the full duration of the session.
There is no previous experience required. Instructors are on hand to tailor the session to complete beginners while still providing a challenge for those who’ve thrown before.
This Tunbridge Wells axe throwing venue is part of a purpose-built centre offering high quality facilities and instruction. Every session is run by a trained team member who ensures safety remains the priority without taking away from the competitive and fun atmosphere. The mix of traditional and modern axes adds variety and progression to the session, giving everyone a chance to find their rhythm.
The centre is known for welcoming individuals, parties, and team groups of all kinds – from casual friends' days out to stag and hen dos. Whether it’s your first throw or your fiftieth, the structure of the session means everyone is fully supported and involved from start to finish.
No previous experience is necessary to take part. Whether you’re completely new or have tried similar activities before, our sessions are designed to suit all levels. When you arrive, our friendly instructor will walk you through a full introduction and safety briefing, giving you the confidence and know-how to get started.
Once the initial briefing is done, the instructor stays on hand throughout your session. They’ll provide support, tips, and guidance as needed, helping you get the most out of your time. The focus is on safe fun, and everything is tailored to your ability and comfort level, so you’re never out of your depth.
Each standard session runs for 1 hour, which gives plenty of time to get familiar with the activity, enjoy a good amount of practice, and try a variety of techniques or games depending on the group. It’s a great introduction for individuals or smaller groups looking for a fun, active experience.
For larger groups, longer sessions can be arranged in advance. This helps ensure everyone gets enough time on the lanes without being rushed. If you're planning a party, event or corporate outing, let us know and we can customise the timing to suit your needs.
You’ll need to wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear for safety – no sandals, flip-flops, or open shoes of any kind are allowed on the lanes. Footwear should provide good grip and ankle support. Trainers or walking boots are ideal.
As sessions are outdoors, we strongly recommend dressing for the weather on the day. Layers are useful, and it’s best to make clothing choices closer to the time of your visit so you can prepare properly. If it looks like rain, waterproofs or a lightweight jacket are a good idea, and in colder months, gloves and hats can make a big difference to your comfort.
We’re easy to locate on Dundale Road, right beside the local cattery. Once you’re on the road, you’ll see a large car park which is free to use. Simply park up and walk towards the reception area where a team member will be waiting to check you in.
If you’re using sat-nav, it should take you directly to the right spot. Clear signage is posted around the site to help guide you from the car park. If you need any help on the day, feel free to give us a call – we’ll be happy to direct you.
Yes, the activity is open to participants aged 12 and up. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a supervising adult for the duration of the session. This is both a safety measure and part of the venue’s safeguarding policy.
Adults don’t need to take part in the throwing if they’re just supervising, but they must remain present at all times. For older teens, instructors will still provide full supervision and guidance. Valid ID may be required for juniors, so it’s a good idea to bring it along just in case.
Axe throwing can usually go ahead in light to moderate rain, so we recommend dressing accordingly. The lanes are designed to be safe in varying weather, and the activity is often more fun when you embrace the outdoor setting. Just wear a waterproof layer and sturdy footwear, and you’ll be good to go.
In cases of severe weather or safety concerns – such as high winds or lightning – the session may need to be postponed or rescheduled. If that happens, you’ll be contacted as early as possible to make alternative arrangements. The team will always prioritise your safety while trying to keep disruption to a minimum.
