You'll spend a morning riding ATVs through jungle and village tracks, with chocolate and rum tastings, wildlife stops and beach time woven in before you head back to your ship. This trip covers a lot of ground in one shore day, and first-time riders are welcome.
At the ATV base, your guide runs a safety briefing and shows you throttle, brakes and how to follow the lead rider. Then you'll set off in a convoy along dirt roads and rough tracks through the jungle fringe and a local village down toward the coast, with viewpoints and a beach approach where you can pause for photos near a shipwreck setting.
Roughly 90 minutes on the machines gives you proper riding time, with spacing and speed managed so you can focus on the trails rather than navigation. The rest of the morning covers a chocolate factory visit, rum and rum cake samples, a sloth and monkey sanctuary, photo stops at the Roatan sign and Rusty Fish craft market, and a pause at West Bay beach before return to the cruise terminal.
Inland from West Bay, jungle and village tracks form the main ATV route, with a beach approach for photos near a shipwreck viewpoint. Expect rough, dusty terrain with forest fringe, village lanes and coastal lookouts along the way.
Chocolate and rum stops are in working production spaces where you can watch local methods and sample fresh products. A sloth and monkey sanctuary and West Bay beach round out the day before the drive back to your cruise terminal.
First-time ATV riders are welcome. Your guide gives a safety briefing and basic riding instructions before you set off. You'll need reasonable balance to control the machine on uneven ground and should be comfortable with dust, heat and short walks between stops.
Children from age 4 can join when accompanied by an adult. Infants travel in laps during vehicle transfers. Wear closed-toe shoes, clothes you don't mind getting dusty, and secure loose items before riding.
We run ATV shore days for cruise visitors with port pickup and return built in, and your guide stays with the same group from the briefing through to drop-off. Our English-speaking team knows the trails and keeps the convoy pace manageable for riders who have never been on a quad before.
Around 90 minutes on the machines is a proper ride, not a short loop, and we build tastings and wildlife into the same morning so you see more of Roatan without arranging separate trips. Small groups keep things personal, and we balance time on the ATVs with gentler stops at the sanctuary and beach, which works well for mixed-age families.
Expect around 90 minutes on the ATVs across dirt roads, jungle fringe and village lanes down toward the beach. That riding block sits inside a wider four-hour excursion that also covers tastings, wildlife and sightseeing transfers.
Total time from cruise pickup to port drop-off is about four hours. Allow a little flexibility for traffic near the terminal and group pace on the trails.
No previous ATV experience is necessary to take part. We run a safety briefing and show you throttle, brakes and how to follow the lead rider before leaving the base.
Riders should be comfortable with uneven ground and moderate speed on rough tracks. If you're nervous, tell your guide at the start so we can place you in a suitable position in the group.
Children from age 4 can take part when travelling with a responsible adult. Infants must sit on laps during vehicle transfers between stops rather than riding their own ATV.
Young riders on machines follow guide rules for speed and spacing. Families with mixed ages often appreciate the balance of active riding and gentler sanctuary and tasting stops.
We collect cruise passengers at the ship terminal or an agreed point inside the port area nearest your vessel. Your driver meets you after you get off the ship and returns you to the terminal before your ship departure window.
Share your ship name and docking details when you book so we can plan timing. If you're staying at a hotel rather than on a cruise, ask us about pickup when you reserve.
The animal stop focuses on sloths plus rescued monkeys and macaws among other island species. Your guide explains how the sanctuary cares for animals and sets expectations for respectful viewing distances.
Wild animals behave differently each day, so pacing and photo opportunities vary. The emphasis is on calm observation rather than handling or feeding unless staff explicitly offer a supervised moment.
At the chocolate factory you'll walk through production areas, learn how local cacao is processed and taste fresh samples. The rum stop covers how rum and rum cakes are made on the island with small tasting portions of several flavours.
Both visits are guided and relatively short, designed to fit between riding and wildlife time. Non-drinkers can still enjoy chocolate samples and rum cake without consuming spirits.
A sit-down lunch is not part of the standard excursion. Tasting samples at the chocolate and rum stops provide light bites, but plan to eat aboard your ship or at your hotel outside the tour window.
West Bay beach time lets you relax with water views. Bring a snack if you need something between tastings and return to the port.
Wear closed-toe shoes with a firm sole, trousers or long shorts, and clothes you don't mind getting dusty. Sunglasses and a hat help on open trails, and biodegradable sunscreen is sensible in tropical sun.
Helmets are typically provided at the ATV base. Tie back long hair and secure loose items so nothing catches while riding.
Contact us as soon as you know your ship is late so we can adjust pickup or advise if the tour can still run within your port time. Shore excursions depend on the hours your vessel is alongside.
Keeping your mobile number active in Roatan helps drivers reach you at the terminal if plans shift on the day.
Weather rarely stops the full programme, but extreme conditions could affect ATV riding safety. If a segment is adjusted, we prioritise guest safety and may substitute or shorten riding while keeping other stops where possible.
Your guide explains any changes on the day. We monitor trail conditions and will modify the route if needed while keeping as much of the experience as possible.
