Get ready for 90 minutes of fast-paced, target-hitting fun with this Archery and Aerial Archery combo session in Pembrokeshire. With expert instruction, top-quality equipment, and both static and flying targets, this private session is designed to be fun, accessible, and totally different from your usual day out.
You’ll start with a structured safety briefing and introduction to both types of archery. First up is Olympic-style target archery using modern recurve bows. Whether it’s your first time or you’ve tried it before, your instructor will guide you through proper technique, helping you build accuracy and confidence on static targets. Everyone has the chance to shoot multiple times, and tips are given throughout to help you improve as you go.
Once you're confident with static archery, you’ll move onto aerial archery. Using lightweight Snake Bows and specially designed Flu Flu arrows, you’ll shoot at foam discs launched into the air by a Laporte Phoenix trap—imagine clay pigeon shooting, but with a bow. Hitting a flying target is a challenge, but it’s incredibly rewarding, and suitable for all skill levels. You’ll be coached through the movement, timing, and positioning needed to land a successful shot, and there's plenty of opportunity to practise. Sessions take place outdoors where possible, or inside a spacious covered barn in poor weather. With group sizes kept small and no shared bookings, everyone gets proper time on the line.
This session is based at Ffynnon Hafod, near the village of Tavernspite in Pembrokeshire. Exact directions, including a What3Words location, will be sent after booking. Look out for the entrance marked with a two-bladed wind turbine, then follow the track to park between the barns.
The site offers both outdoor and indoor facilities, so the session can run in all weather conditions. The barn is unheated but fully sheltered, making it comfortable enough even in colder months. The peaceful countryside surroundings make for a relaxed and enjoyable experience, without the distractions of a busy venue.
Participants must be at least 10 years old. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult throughout. A quick consent and safety form will be filled in when you arrive—nothing too formal, just to keep things safe and smooth.
No archery experience is needed. If you can pull back the bowstring, you can take part. Everything will be explained clearly, and your instructor will adapt the session based on your group's ability and confidence level.
This is the only location in Wales currently offering aerial archery, making it a standout experience for anyone looking to try something different. The combination of traditional and aerial formats means the session stays varied and exciting, and the private setup means it's tailored entirely to your group.
You’ll be learning from an experienced, qualified instructor with a background in multiple sports and years of coaching all ages and abilities. With a strong focus on helping people feel comfortable and confident, the session is delivered in a supportive, fun environment where everyone has a chance to improve and enjoy themselves—whether you hit the bullseye or finally crack that flying target.
The session includes both traditional Olympic-style target archery and aerial archery. In the first part, you’ll shoot at static targets using modern recurve bows, focusing on technique, accuracy, and form. This is suitable for all levels, whether you’re new to archery or have some experience.
Aerial archery introduces a dynamic challenge where foam discs are launched into the air using a Laporte Phoenix trap. You’ll use specially designed Snake Bows and Flu Flu arrows to try and hit these moving targets. It’s similar to clay pigeon shooting but with a bow and arrow, offering a fresh, fast-paced twist on traditional archery.
No previous archery experience is needed to join the session. The instructor will guide you through all the basics, including safety, stance, how to hold and shoot the bow, and proper arrow handling. This makes the session accessible to complete beginners, including children aged 10 and above.
If you already have some archery skills, the instructor can help you refine your technique and offer advanced tips. The small group sizes and private format mean the session is tailored to the abilities and interests of each participant.
The session is designed to run in all weather conditions. When the weather is suitable, shooting takes place outdoors amid the Pembrokeshire countryside. This provides a spacious and natural setting for the activity.
If the weather turns wet or windy, the session moves indoors to a covered barn on site. The barn is fully set up for archery but is not heated, so participants should dress appropriately. Despite the lack of heating, the barn offers shelter and a safe environment to continue shooting comfortably.
You’ll be provided with modern recurve bows for target shooting and specialised Snake Bows for aerial archery. The arrows for aerial archery are Flu Flu arrows, designed to slow down and prevent loss, making them safe and effective for flying targets.
All equipment is maintained to a high standard and included in the session price. You won’t need to bring anything except suitable clothing and footwear. The instructor will help fit the right bow for your strength and size.
The session takes place at Ffynnon Hafod, Crosslands Road, Tavernspite, Whitland, Pembrokeshire SA34 0AZ. After booking, you will receive a precise What3Words location via email for easy navigation.
The entrance is marked by a two-bladed wind turbine, and there is parking available between the barns at the end of the lane. The venue is set in a quiet rural area, offering a peaceful environment perfect for archery.
Groups can be from 1 up to 10 people, with sessions kept private so you only shoot with those you booked with. For groups of 1 to 5, everyone shoots individually and actively throughout the session.
