This two-hour advanced session is for surfers who already have a solid foundation and want sharper wave riding. We'll film you in the water, review the footage together, and send you away with a plan to keep progressing.
Our advanced sessions focus on helping you achieve tangible progress. Each session begins with practical drills in the water, where we assess your technique and wave-riding performance. We use video analysis to provide instant, objective feedback, allowing you to see what's working and where adjustments can be made. After the session, we'll review the footage together, discuss specific areas for improvement, and develop a personalised training programme to help you reach your goals.
Our lead instructor, Tyson, is a former competitive surfer with over 38 years of surfing experience, including competing in the European Surfing Championships and winning the English National Championships (Over 45s) in 2023. Tyson, along with Ian and Billy, forms an elite coaching team with years of coaching expertise, ensuring you're in the best hands to develop your surfing.
Our surf school is ideally located just a short walk from the beach, making it easy to jump straight into the surf without delay. With excellent parking available all year round, you won't have to worry about parking logistics, even during peak season.
The beach offers a variety of waves suitable for honing advanced skills, giving you the perfect environment to practice and improve.
This advanced training is suitable for surfers who already have experience and a solid foundation of surf skills. You don't need to be a professional, but a strong understanding of wave riding and basic manoeuvres is recommended.
If you're unsure whether this programme is right for you, feel free to get in touch, and we'll advise based on your current level.
Our surf school has over 24 years of experience in surf coaching and is Academy of Surfing Instructors (ASI) Approved, ensuring top-quality instruction. Our coaching team is led by Tyson, an ASI Level 4 Surf Coach and former competitive surfer, along with Ian and Billy, both highly qualified and experienced surf instructors.
Our instructors bring a wealth of competition and coaching experience to help you achieve your personal best. With indoor changing facilities, a prime location just steps from the beach, and ample parking available all year round, our surf school offers a professional but very friendly environment to hone your skills.
You'll find us by Lula's (formerly the Rockpool Bar & Grill) just outside the village of Gwithian. The surf school and shop is within a 15-minute drive of St Ives and Hayle, and about 30 minutes from Penzance and Newquay.
By car, take the Hayle exit (near M&S) from the A30. After the Hayle exit roundabout you'll come to a double roundabout; take the third exit onto the B3301 towards Gwithian. Drive for about three miles, go through the village, then turn left after the humpback bridge. We're in the building just to the right of Lula's, with parking available year-round.
Bring something thin to wear under your wetsuit, such as a bathing costume or speedos. Underwear or boxers are fine; swimming shorts, trunks, or t-shirts tend to bunch up and feel uncomfortable in the water.
You'll also want a towel, a good high-factor sunscreen, and flip-flops or old shoes for the walk to the beach.

Yes, we do. With surfing you tend to get very wet anyway so it's an activity that rain doesn't affect too much.
We wouldn't go into the sea if there was thunder and lightning, fog and mist, or during a hailstorm. If the forecast looks awkward we'll be in touch about the plan for the day.
Yes we can. While the surf school does close during the winter we can still provide lessons if you give us advance warning.
Get in touch ahead of time and we'll let you know what we can arrange for the dates you have in mind, including whether video analysis still works on that tide.
During the session, we'll record footage of you in action on the waves. This allows us to provide real-time feedback on your positioning, wave selection, and technique.
After the session, we'll review the video with you, offering specific insights into how to improve your surfing, which can be hard to recognise in the moment without seeing yourself in action.
Each advanced surf session includes two hours of personalised coaching, video analysis, and performance feedback. We will assess your skills through practical drills, and after the session, we'll review the footage together.
You'll also receive a tailored training programme to help you continue improving your surf performance.
Please arrive 30 minutes before the session to check in, gear up, and get an introduction from your coach.
This ensures we can maximise your time in the water.
Advanced surf training is typically designed for individual instruction, but small group sessions can be arranged upon request.
If you'd like to train with a friend or a small group, contact us in advance, and we can accommodate your needs.
Yes, we offer plenty of parking year-round, even during the busy summer months.
Our location is also just a short, easy walk to the beach, so you won't have to worry about carrying equipment long distances.
Each session is designed to provide tangible feedback and immediate steps for improvement, but progression depends on the individual. Many surfers find that they benefit from multiple sessions spread over time to continually refine their skills.
After your initial session, we can create a programme tailored to your goals, whether that's one session or a series of lessons.
