This advanced diver training is designed for certified Open Water divers who want stronger control, deeper understanding, and genuine progression rather than a collection of disconnected dives. Training is delivered in small groups or one-to-one, using modern equipment and an approach that builds skills cumulatively. Two recognised pathways are available, with guidance provided to help you choose the right option for your experience and goals.
This course moves beyond the traditional “five taster dives” model. Skills are built progressively, with each dive reinforcing and expanding on previous learning. Rather than sampling unrelated specialties, training focuses on developing depth capability, control, and judgement that applies across all future diving.
If you choose the RAID Advanced 35 pathway, the course centres around six structured dives. Training begins with a refresher and in-water assessment to confirm your baseline skills before progressing into deeper diving, buoyancy refinement, navigation, and rescue-focused workshops. All elements are cumulative, and certification is only awarded once every component is performed to the required standard.
The SDI Advanced Adventurer Diver If you are now ready to expand your knowledge but would like to see what is out there first, then the SDI Advanced Adventure Diver course is for you! The SDI Advanced Adventure course will give you an overview of five different SDI specialties. Two of the required specialties are the Deep Diver and Navigation Diver specialties which are the foundation of continuing diver education. The remaining specialty dives you can opt for include:
This course is intended to introduce you to each of the five specialties selected; not complete comprehension of the chosen specialty. One dive from each of the chosen specialties may apply towards the completion of a specialty certification.
Initial assessments, skills refreshers, and the majority of open water dives are conducted at Capernwray in Carnforth. This inland site provides consistent conditions, suitable depth, and the ability to focus on skills without unnecessary environmental pressure.
Depending on the pathway chosen and specialty selections, some elements may be completed across different days or weekends. Scheduling remains flexible and is planned around your availability, experience level, and training objectives.
You must hold a recognised Open Water Diver certification or equivalent. A reasonable level of comfort in the water is expected, as this course builds on existing skills rather than teaching from scratch.
Advanced training here is focused on producing divers who can think, plan, and operate safely as part of a team, not just follow a dive guide. Skills are taught using equipment and techniques that remain relevant as you progress, avoiding the need to relearn fundamentals later.
With decades of combined operational and instructional experience across UK and European environments, training reflects real diving rather than minimum standards. Involvement in environmental, archaeological, military, and expedition projects ensures that advanced courses emphasise awareness, decision-making, and reliability underwater.
