Over nine days you'll acclimatise in the Chamonix Valley before moving into the high mountains for hut-based climbing on the standard Goûter route. Training on snow and ice, glacier travel and ridge walking prepare you for summit day on the highest peak in the Alps.
You'll stay in comfortable hotels in Chamonix and legendary alpine huts including Tête Rousse and Goûter. A reserve day is built into the schedule so your guide can wait for the safest weather window before the summit push.
Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps and one of the most famous mountaineering objectives in the world. Standing at 4,805 metres on the border between France and Italy, it has attracted climbers for centuries and remains one of the most sought-after alpine summits.
This 9-day expedition combines acclimatisation hikes, mountain hut stays, snow and ice training and a carefully planned summit attempt. Based around Chamonix, the birthplace of modern mountaineering, the programme gradually prepares participants for the challenges of high-altitude alpine climbing while exploring some of the most spectacular scenery in Europe.
Led by experienced mountain professionals, this expedition has been designed to maximise acclimatisation, build confidence and provide the best possible preparation for reaching the summit of Mont Blanc. The team combines extensive alpine experience with specialist training in glacier travel, mountain safety and high-altitude guiding.
Small guide ratios allow for personalised support throughout the climb, while carefully planned logistics ensure participants can focus fully on the mountain experience. From arrival in Chamonix to the final summit push, every stage of the expedition is designed to help climbers progress safely and confidently.
After arriving at Geneva Airport, you'll meet your guide and transfer to Chamonix, one of the world's most famous mountain towns. Following hotel check-in, there will be a full equipment review, expedition briefing and welcome dinner.
The following day begins with an acclimatisation hike to Brévent at approximately 2,600 metres. This non-technical ascent provides spectacular views across the Chamonix Valley and your first close look at Mont Blanc, helping prepare your body for the higher elevations ahead.
The expedition moves into the high mountains using a combination of cable cars, mountain railways and hiking trails. The route leads to Tête Rousse Hut at 3,161 metres, where you'll spend two nights preparing for the next stage of the climb.
An early start on Day 4 sees you tackle Dôme du Goûter at around 4,300 metres. The route includes crossing the famous Goûter Couloir before continuing across snow-covered slopes towards the summit. Following the climb, you'll return to Tête Rousse Hut for further acclimatisation and recovery.
Leaving Tête Rousse behind, you'll continue climbing towards the modern Goûter Hut at approximately 3,800 metres. Situated high above the Chamonix Valley, the hut offers impressive views across the surrounding mountains.
The afternoon focuses on snow and ice training near the hut. These practical sessions allow participants to refine key techniques and prepare equipment before the summit attempt.
Summit day begins before dawn as you leave the hut and begin the ascent towards the highest point in the Alps. The route follows exposed snow ridges and high-altitude terrain, requiring concentration, endurance and teamwork.
Standing on the summit of Mont Blanc at 4,805 metres is a landmark achievement for mountaineers. After taking time to appreciate the views across France, Italy and Switzerland, you'll begin the long descent back towards Tête Rousse Hut.
An additional reserve day is included to provide flexibility should weather conditions affect the summit attempt. This extra time can also be used for additional acclimatisation or training if required.
Following a successful summit push, you'll descend back to the Chamonix Valley and return to hotel accommodation. The final evening includes time to explore Chamonix and celebrate the expedition before transferring back to Geneva Airport on Day 9.
Accommodation is provided throughout the expedition and includes hotel stays in Chamonix together with overnight stays in mountain huts on the mountain itself.
The Tête Rousse Hut and Goûter Hut provide direct access to the summit route while offering a classic alpine hut experience. Staying high on the mountain allows participants to acclimatise effectively and position themselves for the summit attempt.
Previous mountain experience is strongly recommended for this expedition. Participants should be comfortable hiking for long days in mountainous terrain and ideally have some experience using basic mountaineering equipment.
Mont Blanc is often considered an achievable first major alpine peak, but it still requires good fitness, determination and the ability to perform at high altitude over multiple days.
Mont Blanc is considered a challenging alpine climb rather than a technical climbing route. The primary difficulties come from altitude, exposure, glacier travel and the physical demands of summit day.
Participants should expect long days, changing weather conditions and sustained effort throughout the expedition. Proper acclimatisation and preparation are key to success.
The expedition is generally suitable for participants aged 18 and over due to the physical demands and mountain environment involved.
If younger participants wish to join, please send a request before booking. Experience, fitness and previous mountain background will be reviewed individually.
The Goûter Couloir is one of the most famous sections of the standard Mont Blanc route. This steep gully must be crossed when travelling between Tête Rousse and Goûter Hut.
Your guides carefully manage this section and choose appropriate timings to minimise risk while following established safety procedures.
The mountain huts provide basic but comfortable accommodation in a high-altitude environment. Facilities typically include dormitory-style sleeping areas, meals and communal spaces shared with other climbers.
Staying in these huts is an important part of the Mont Blanc experience and helps position participants for the summit attempt while reducing daily ascent distances.
Weather conditions can have a major impact on any Mont Blanc expedition. Strong winds, snowfall or unstable conditions may require adjustments to the planned summit schedule.
A reserve day has been built into the itinerary specifically to provide flexibility and increase the chances of finding a suitable weather window for the ascent.
Yes, all participants must have specialist mountaineering insurance covering alpine climbing, emergency evacuation and medical treatment.
It is important to ensure your policy specifically covers activities at the altitude and technical level associated with Mont Blanc.
A strong level of fitness is essential for a successful ascent. Participants should be comfortable walking uphill for extended periods while carrying a day pack and coping with high-altitude conditions.
Training before the expedition is highly recommended and should include cardiovascular exercise, hill walking and endurance activities to prepare for the demands of summit day.
Group safety equipment including ropes, anchors and shared climbing gear is provided throughout the expedition. Your guide carries emergency and navigation equipment on the mountain.
Personal mountaineering equipment such as boots, harness, helmet, crampons and ice axe must be brought by each participant or rented locally in Chamonix during the equipment check on arrival.
The expedition begins with a meeting at Geneva Airport, where your guide will collect the group for the transfer to Chamonix. Full arrival details and meeting instructions are confirmed after booking.
If you are already in the Chamonix area, alternative meeting arrangements can be discussed in advance. Transport from Geneva to Chamonix and return at the end of the trip is included in the expedition price.
