Drive from Arusha or Moshi to Machame Gate, where you'll complete park registration before beginning your trek. Hike through lush montane rainforest to Machame Camp, surrounded by towering trees and rich birdlife.

Overnight: Machame Camp
Leave the rainforest behind as the trail climbs into open moorland. Enjoy expansive views across the Shira Plateau towards Mount Meru and Kibo Peak.

Cross the spectacular Shira Plateau before ascending towards Lava Tower for acclimatisation and descending into the beautiful Barranco Valley, following the "climb high, sleep low" principle.

Overnight: Barranco Camp
Conquer the famous Barranco Wall before continuing across ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp, where you'll spend your first night above 4,000 metres.

A steady climb takes you to Barafu Camp, your base for the summit attempt. Spend the afternoon resting, eating an early dinner and preparing for the overnight ascent.

Shortly after midnight, begin your summit attempt. Climb through the darkness to Stella Point before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) at sunrise, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, descend via Barafu Camp to Mweka Camp for a well-earned rest.

Overnight: Mweka Camp
Complete your final descent through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificate before transferring back to Arusha or Moshi.

Tip: Make photocopies or digital copies of your passport, visa, flight tickets and insurance documents. Leave one copy with someone at home and keep another separate from the originals.
