After being collected from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, drive to the Umbwe Gate to complete park registration. Begin your climb through dense montane rainforest, following a steep forest trail that winds between the Lonzo and Umbwe Rivers before reaching Umbwe Camp.

Leave the forest behind as you follow the narrow Umbwe Ridge, enjoying dramatic views of the towering Breach Wall before descending slightly into the beautiful Barranco Valley.

Overnight: Barranco Camp
Climb the famous Barranco Wall before traversing rocky ridges to the Karanga Valley. Along the way, enjoy superb views beneath the Heim, Kersten and Decken Glaciers.

Overnight: Karanga Camp
Climb steadily out of the Karanga Valley to Barafu Camp, your base for the summit attempt. Spend the afternoon resting and preparing for the overnight ascent.

Begin your summit attempt before dawn, climbing between the Rebmann and Ratzel Glaciers to the crater rim before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, descend via Barafu Camp to Mweka Camp.

Overnight: Mweka Camp
Descend through beautiful rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificate before transferring back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi.

Tip: Make photocopies or digital copies of your passport, visa, flight tickets and insurance documents. Leave one copy with someone at home and keep another separate from the originals.

Rainfall: April-May (long rains) and November to mid-December (short rains).
