We had an amazing time! Beautiful location and a great guide!

Spend a week climbing in one of the most exciting areas for beginner outdoor climbers in the UK. This 5-day guided course on the northwest coast of Scotland introduces you to real rock climbing at a relaxed pace, covering everything from small local crags to classic multi-pitch climbs in Applecross, Torridon and the Isle of Skye.
Fully Inclusive Option
You'll be welcomed on Sunday evening to a local guest house near Applecross where you'll meet your guide and group. From Monday through Friday, you'll head out each day to climb in the best conditions available—sometimes on the coast, other days in the shadow of Torridon's big peaks. Your guide will select routes suited to your experience, allowing for steady progression throughout the week. Meals are homemade and served each morning and evening, with packed lunches provided for climbing days. The evenings offer time to unwind and share stories, either at the guesthouse or at a local inn.
Instruction starts with the basics—tying in, belaying and climbing movement—before building towards anchor setup and seconding routes. Later in the week, depending on your ability and confidence, you may progress to longer climbs such as the Cioch Nose or routes on Beinn Eighe. With a maximum of three clients per instructor, you'll get tailored support throughout. This option is ideal if you want to focus fully on the experience without thinking about logistics, food or where you’re staying.
Trip Only Option
For those who prefer a more flexible setup, the Trip Only package includes all guiding, equipment and transport but leaves meals and accommodation up to you. This is popular with campers, vanlifers or those who prefer to book into Applecross campsite or the nearby Hartfield Lodge hostel. You'll still meet the group on Sunday night to run through the week, and spend the same full days out on the crags learning new techniques and building your confidence. You’ll be well looked after by your instructor, and your climbing week will finish after the day on Friday.
Both options follow the same instructional plan and schedule, meaning you’ll be climbing alongside others in your group each day, no matter where you’re staying or eating.
This trip is based in Applecross on the northwest coast of Scotland, one of the most geologically diverse and scenic climbing areas in the country. It’s an excellent introduction to real rock for indoor climbers or hillwalkers looking to progress. Routes here are sheltered by the surrounding mountains and sea lochs, giving reliable climbing conditions even when the weather is less predictable elsewhere.
Your week may include climbing at a variety of crags across Wester Ross and the Isle of Skye, all within reach of our base. The region offers both friendly beginner slabs and classic sea cliffs, with the potential for longer mountain routes later in the week. It’s a truly scenic area with a strong Highland character and plenty of friendly places to eat or stay.
Accommodation is included for those choosing the Fully Inclusive package. You'll stay in a local guest house just outside Applecross, offering a comfortable base with homemade food, packed lunches for climbing days, and a friendly welcome. The guest house is well situated for access to the climbing venues and evenings often include time around the fire or a visit to the local inn.
If you prefer to arrange your own accommodation, the Trip Only option is ideal. Many guests stay at Applecross Campsite or book a room at Hartfield Lodge hostel. All transport to and from climbing venues is provided.
You don’t need any climbing experience, but you should be comfortable outdoors and have a reasonable level of fitness. This is a beginner-level course, so if you're used to hiking or scrambling, you'll fit right in.
Participants must be over 18 and prepared for a full week outdoors. All equipment is provided, so you only need to bring clothing suitable for the Scottish mountains and crags.
The team behind this course lives full-time in the northwest Highlands. That local knowledge means they’ll take you to the best venues for the weather and the group’s ability, and share insight into the region's wildlife, geology and culture as part of the experience. Safety and teaching are at the heart of every trip, with small group ratios ensuring you get the attention you need to improve.
They’ve been running trips here since 1995 and are known for their relaxed, supportive instruction style and deep understanding of the local landscape. Whether you go for the Fully Inclusive package or the Trip Only option, the trip is structured to give you value, flexibility and a great week in the mountains with others who share the same passion.
