We had an amazing time! Beautiful location and a great guide!

The Cuillin Ridge is known as the UK’s most alpine mountain experience, and this guided experience gives you the chance to move across its jagged terrain with support, instruction and rope safety throughout. Based from the mainland in Lochcarron, this trip is suited to hillwalkers looking to push themselves further while building technical skills in a unique and iconic setting.
Fully Inclusive Option:
The week begins with your arrival in Lochcarron and a relaxed briefing over dinner in the guesthouse. From Monday to Thursday, you’ll be guided across some of the most demanding and rewarding sections of the Black Cuillin Ridge. Your guide will focus on movement coaching, safe scrambling, rope work, and identifying the best lines across exposed terrain. Each day’s objectives are selected based on the weather and group goals, with a plan to tick off some of Skye’s most celebrated Munro summits including Sgùrr Alasdair, Sgùrr MhicChoinnich and Am Basteir.
Evenings are spent in the comfort of our local guesthouse, where fresh homemade food and local produce fuel you for the following day. There’s time to relax by the fire, review progress, and enjoy the surroundings. The inclusive package covers accommodation, all meals, transport, guide fees and equipment. Transfers from Strathcarron station can also be arranged if you’re travelling by train.
Trip Only Option:
If you prefer flexibility over food and accommodation, the trip only option allows you to arrange your own base while joining the same guided mountain days. We’ll meet you each morning in Lochcarron, or pick you up en route to Skye from agreed points like Broadford or Kyleakin. This option is ideal for those camping, staying at the Applecross campsite, or using local B&Bs or hostels in Lochcarron or on Skye.
You’ll still benefit from the full technical support, instruction, and guiding each day. Whether you’re pitching a tent or using local bunkhouses, we can recommend a number of suitable places to stay near the Cuillin for a comfortable and affordable experience.
Our base in Lochcarron puts us within reach of the Skye Bridge and the Black Cuillin, making it a strategic location for accessing the ridge each day without committing to more remote overnight stays. Lochcarron offers local amenities, small cafes and views across to the mountains of the northwest Highlands, providing a laid-back base after long days on the hill.
Each day, we travel together to the Cuillin, with pickup points possible en route. The ridge itself is unique in Britain: a complex series of volcanic peaks, exposed scrambles, and dramatic drops that make it unlike anything on the mainland. We guide with weather conditions in mind, using local knowledge to select the best routes and objectives for each group.
The fully inclusive option includes 5 nights in our guesthouse accommodation in Lochcarron. Comfortable rooms, local hospitality and home-cooked meals make this a relaxing base to return to after challenging days out. It also includes arrival and departure nights so you’re not rushed on either end of your trip.
For trip only participants, we recommend options such as The Wee Campsite, Hartfield Lodge Hostel, or a variety of B&Bs in Lochcarron. If staying on Skye, the Sligachan Hotel or Old Inn Carbost (both with bunkhouses) offer good access to the ridge, along with local B&Bs and campsites like Camping Skye and Sligachan Campsite.
You should be a fit and active hillwalker, comfortable with full mountain days and carrying a daypack over uneven and sometimes exposed ground. No previous climbing experience is required, but good balance and a head for heights will help you get the most out of the experience.
Guides will teach rope techniques and movement skills as needed. The trip is designed to be supportive, instructional, and safe for those with the enthusiasm to challenge themselves on more complex mountain terrain.
The guides for this trip live and work full time in the northwest Highlands, bringing not only technical expertise but also a deep understanding of local conditions, wildlife, and culture. With years of experience on the Cuillin Ridge and in Torridon, they can adapt routes and provide instruction that’s tailored to both your ability and the ever-changing mountain weather.
Trips are designed with flexibility in mind—choose between a fully inclusive experience with all the comforts taken care of, or a stripped-back option if you’d prefer to manage your own accommodation and food. Either way, your days on the ridge will be well-supported, technically sound, and focused on helping you achieve your personal mountain goals.
