Your tour begins with a guided ascent towards the high-mountain areas near Formigal and Panticosa. The guide sets a steady pace suitable for mixed groups and ensures everyone is comfortable with throttle control, braking and positioning on winter terrain. Depending on the shift selected, you will travel either during the last light of day or under the glow of the moon. Both routes offer excellent visibility across the snowfields and surrounding peaks, with multiple stops to take in the scenery.
On reaching the shepherd’s refuge at around 1900m, you will be welcomed with an appetiser and a drink. Inside, a wood-fired meal awaits, served in a warm, rustic setting that reflects the building’s origins as a traditional mountain shelter. The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed, with time to enjoy the fireplace, talk with fellow riders, and sample regional dishes before continuing the experience. Vegan and vegetarian options are available when requested in advance.
After dinner, the descent begins. Night conditions transform the landscape, and on clear evenings you can pause to observe the stars or the moonlight reflecting across the snow. With no artificial lighting in the area, the visibility of constellations and surrounding ridgelines is exceptional. The route finishes back at the meeting point, bringing the experience to a calm and memorable conclusion.
The tour takes place in the high-mountain terrain surrounding Formigal and Panticosa, an area known for dependable winter snow and minimal light pollution. A valid driving licence is required for anyone operating the snowmobile. No previous experience is needed, and the guide will demonstrate the essential techniques before departure. Drivers must feel comfortable following instructions and adapting to changing winter surfaces.
Passengers do not require a licence. Winter clothing is essential, including insulated layers, waterproof trousers and jackets, snow gloves and sunglasses for the sunset shift. Evening temperatures can fall sharply, so additional thermal protection is strongly recommended.
