The Gorge Ghyll Leader Award (GGL) equips participants with the expertise to confidently lead groups through challenging Gorge and Ghyll environments across the UK. Our Gorge Ghyll Leader Award course is structured to provide comprehensive training and assessment in a range of essential skills. Participants will learn advanced techniques for technical rope work, setting up and managing belays, hand lines, and rappels in vertical and near-vertical terrain typical of Gorges and Ghylls.
The programme includes thorough training in hazard assessment, focusing on identifying and managing water hazards such as small hydraulics and currents crucial for ensuring group safety during activities. Emergency procedures specific to canyon environments are covered extensively, including casualty care and extraction techniques. Moreover, participants will develop skills in effective group communication, decision-making under pressure, and managing participant dynamics in challenging outdoor settings.
Led by experienced professionals with extensive backgrounds in adventure sports and outdoor education, our course combines theoretical knowledge with practical hands-on sessions. Participants will engage in scenario-based training exercises that simulate real-world challenges, ensuring readiness to handle diverse situations with confidence.
Courses are based in Ingleton, North Yorkshire, providing ideal terrain for learning and assessment in Gorge and Ghyll leadership. Specific meeting points will be given in advance of your booked course.
