Designed for anyone involved in sports, leisure, or outdoor activities, this two-day course provides comprehensive first aid knowledge tailored to active settings. You’ll develop practical skills for emergencies such as injuries, medical conditions, and environmental hazards, all while gaining confidence to respond effectively.
Day one focuses on the primary survey, CPR, choking management, AED awareness, and assessment of unresponsive casualties. Practical exercises will replicate realistic activity scenarios to improve skill retention and confidence.
On the second day, training covers fractures, burns, head and spinal injuries, drowning injuries, and other activity-related emergencies. You’ll also learn minor injury management, environmental first aid (heat/cold), and practical strategies for multiple casualty situations.
Assessment includes ongoing observation and practical exercises, with feedback provided to reinforce correct technique. By the end of day two, you will have a complete understanding of activity-specific first aid and be ready to act confidently in emergencies.
The course is held at venues across South Wiltshire, including Salisbury, Chippenham, Marlborough, Bath, and Warminster. Facilities include classroom space for theory and practical areas for hands-on training.
Optional on-site delivery is available to replicate your activity setting, whether it’s sports clubs, outdoor education centres, or leisure facilities. Practising in your own environment ensures the scenarios are directly relevant and practical.
You must be at least 14 years old to attend. Physical activities during training include kneeling, lifting, bending, and performing CPR, so comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes are required.
Previous first aid experience is not required but is beneficial. Participants are expected to engage in scenario-based exercises fully, including handling environmental and activity-related injuries.
Led by an instructor with military and St John Ambulance experience, the course emphasises practical, real-world skills. Accreditation by First Aid Awards Ltd guarantees HSE-compliant training, providing assurance of quality and relevance.
The course offers small-group, hands-on learning and scenario practice, ensuring each student receives detailed feedback and develops confidence in their first aid abilities in activity contexts.
This course is designed for anyone working or volunteering in sports, leisure, outdoor activities, or adventure programmes. You will gain skills to safely manage activity-specific emergencies while ensuring compliance with HSE standards.
It is ideal for outdoor instructors, sports coaches, activity leaders, and volunteers who need a robust understanding of first aid in non-office settings. By the end of the course, you will be confident responding to injuries and emergencies unique to these environments.
While covering many of the same core first aid topics, this course emphasises injuries and emergencies common in activity-based settings. This includes environmental injuries, drowning, angina, and activity-related trauma.
The course also incorporates scenario-based exercises that mimic realistic activity contexts, helping you understand practical application rather than only theoretical knowledge.
You will be observed continuously during practical exercises, including CPR, casualty handling, fracture management, and activity-specific scenarios. The instructor provides ongoing guidance and correction.
Informal knowledge checks and scenario discussions verify your understanding of procedures and decision-making. Successful completion leads to OFQUAL-regulated certification.
Yes, on-site delivery can be arranged to ensure training is directly relevant to your setting. Scenarios can reflect hazards specific to sports, outdoor education, or leisure activities.
This allows participants to practise in their own environment, improving practical understanding and confidence in emergency response tailored to your organisation’s needs.
No, accommodation is not included. Participants will need to arrange overnight stays if necessary. Nearby hotels and guesthouses are available close to the venues.
Scheduling should take into account travel and rest between the two days. The provider can advise on local accommodation options.
Comfortable clothing suitable for kneeling, bending, lifting, and performing CPR is essential. Closed-toe shoes are required.
Bringing water, light snacks, and any personal medical information is recommended. You may also bring a notepad and pen for theoretical notes to maximise learning.
