Turquoise water at Gokyo is the base for three lodge nights on this 12-day walk from Kathmandu, with a steep climb to Gokyo Ri at 5,483 metres. Groups start at two people from age 13. Both Kathmandu to Lukla flights are included, and an English-speaking guide stays from airport pickup through the walk out.
A representative meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport, briefs you on the trek, and takes you to a Kathmandu hotel. The next morning you'll fly to Lukla and walk about three hours to Phakding. The following day is a little over five hours up to Namche Bazaar, the gateway to the Khumbu, then a steep climb through rhododendron, juniper, and yak pasture to Phorste Thanga and Machhermo.
You'll walk about five and a half hours into Gokyo and spend three nights beside the lakes. One morning you'll climb steeply to Gokyo Ri at 5,483 metres. From the top you'll see the Gokyo valley, the Ngozumpa Glacier, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Gyachung Kang when the sky is clear, then return to the lodge.
The walk out drops to Dole, through Khumjung to Namche, and on to Lukla, then you fly about 30 minutes back to Kathmandu. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included from the Lukla day through the night in Lukla on the way out. Groups start at two people. You need to be 13 or older. Lukla flights need a clear morning.
Gokyo Ri looks down on a chain of lakes under the Ngozumpa Glacier, west of the main Khumbu path. The village lodges sit beside the water. Namche Bazaar and Khumjung are the Sherpa towns on the way in and out.
Lukla is the airfield. Kathmandu is the hotel city at each end. You start and finish at Tribhuvan International Airport unless you are already in a city hotel. Gokyo nights are cold beside the lake, so bring a warm layer for the three nights at the water.
Steep Khumbu paths of five to six hours should feel manageable, and you should be happy sleeping above 4,000 metres. Gokyo Ri is a hard climb to 5,483 metres.

High lodges are booked before you leave Kathmandu, including three nights at Gokyo, both Lukla tickets, and an English-speaking guide from the airport through the Ri morning. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the trail days are arranged with those teahouses, so you are not hunting for a bed beside the lake after a five and a half hour approach.
The same Kathmandu crew has been walking this side valley for more than two decades. If cloud closes Lukla or wind sits on Gokyo Ri, the guide holds the group and moves the day rather than pushing a flight or a climb the crew will not accept.
