Get behind the wheel of a compact 4×4 buggy and explore gravel tracks and open landscapes on a short, easy off-road experience. This one-hour ride is ideal if you want a taste of buggy driving without committing to a longer tour, while still seeing waterfalls and varied south coast terrain.
The tour starts at the main base on Road 249, where you’ll meet your guide for a clear safety briefing and overview of the buggy controls. You’ll be fitted with a helmet and insulated outer suit before heading out. The buggies are fully automatic and road-legal, making them straightforward to drive even if this is your first time off-road.
Once underway, the route follows a mix of gravel roads and natural tracks that suit an easy pace. The focus is on getting comfortable with the buggy while enjoying the surroundings, rather than tackling technical obstacles. The open design keeps you connected to the landscape while still feeling secure inside the roll cage.
Along the way, you’ll pass waterfalls and open viewpoints depending on conditions, with short pauses where appropriate. Guides ride with the group throughout, keeping the experience relaxed, well managed and suitable for a wide range of participants.
The experience runs on Iceland’s south coast, an area shaped by glaciers, rivers and volcanic activity. The terrain here is well suited to short buggy routes, offering varied surfaces without long distances or demanding sections.
The meeting point is Brú Base on Road 249, around 3 km past Seljalandsfoss near Hvolsvöllur. The base is easily accessible by car. Optional pick-up and drop-off services are available from selected locations for an additional fee when booked in advance.
No previous buggy or ATV experience is required, but participants should be comfortable sitting in an open vehicle and following instructions. The route is suitable for most people in fair general condition.
Drivers must be at least 18 years old and hold a full, valid car driving licence. Learner permits, tractor licences and motorcycle licences are not accepted. This activity is not recommended for guests with serious back problems, heart conditions, or during pregnancy.
What began with a single vehicle has grown into a large, experienced operation running off-road tours across the south coast. Routes are designed to give a genuine sense of place while remaining accessible and well paced, particularly for first-time drivers.
Guides are locals with detailed knowledge of the area and changing conditions, many with Search and Rescue backgrounds. That experience shapes how tours are delivered, with a strong emphasis on safety, clear briefings and well-maintained vehicles.
No experience is required. The buggies are fully automatic and easy to control.
