Get hands-on with a compact 4×4 buggy and explore gravel tracks, open landscapes and south coast scenery on a short, accessible off-road experience. Designed as an easy introduction to buggy driving, this one-hour tour is well suited to first-timers who want time behind the wheel without committing to a longer ride.
The experience begins at the main base near the south coast, where you’ll meet your guide for a short safety briefing and overview of the buggy controls. You’ll be fitted with a helmet and insulated outer suit before heading out onto the route. The buggies are fully automatic and easy to handle, making them approachable even if you’ve never driven off-road before.
Once underway, the route follows a mix of gravel roads and natural tracks that give a real feel for Iceland’s varied terrain. The pace is controlled and steady, allowing you to focus on driving and enjoying the surroundings rather than technical challenges. The open design of the buggy keeps you connected to the environment while still feeling secure.
Throughout the ride, there are opportunities to stop briefly for photos and to take in views of waterfalls, open plains and surrounding hills, depending on conditions. Guides ride with the group and are on hand throughout, ensuring the experience remains relaxed, safe and well organised from start to finish.
The tour operates on the south coast of Iceland, an area known for its wide open spaces, glacial rivers and volcanic landscapes. This region offers ideal terrain for buggy driving, combining easy access with varied surfaces that suit short off-road routes.
The meeting point is Brú Base on Road 249, located approximately 3 km past Seljalandsfoss waterfall near Hvolsvöllur. The base is easily reached by car, and optional pick-up and drop-off services are available from nearby towns and Reykjavík for an additional fee when booked in advance.
No previous buggy or ATV experience is required, but participants must be comfortable sitting in an open vehicle and following instructions from the guide. The route is suitable for most people in fair general condition.
Drivers must be at least 18 years old and hold a full, valid car driving licence. Learner permits, tractor licences and motorcycle licences are not accepted. This activity is not recommended for guests with serious back problems, heart conditions, or during pregnancy.
This operation has grown from a single vehicle into a large-scale adventure provider with extensive experience running off-road tours in Icelandic conditions. Routes are designed to balance accessibility with a genuine sense of adventure, making them suitable for first-timers while still delivering a memorable drive.
Guides are locals with strong knowledge of the area and its changing conditions, many with Search and Rescue backgrounds. That experience feeds directly into how tours are run, with a clear focus on safety, well-maintained vehicles and a calm, professional approach throughout.
No previous experience is needed. The buggies are fully automatic and designed to be easy to control.
Your guide will explain all controls and safety procedures before departure, and the route is selected to suit beginners.
A shared ride means two people share one buggy, with one driving and one riding as a passenger.
If your group has an odd number or you are travelling solo, one single-ride upgrade is required and must be booked in advance.
Drivers must hold a full, valid car driving licence. Learner permits and motorcycle or tractor licences are not accepted.
Licence confirmation is required before the tour, and you may be asked to show it on the day.

Driving is restricted to adults aged 18 and over with a valid licence.
Warm outdoor clothing, waterproof layers and sturdy hiking shoes are strongly recommended.
