Olancho is Honduras's largest department: pine-oak forest, ranch country and long dirt roads. It's inland wilderness without the Mosquitia's lagoons. Fewer operators, fewer boats, more hours in a vehicle. You'll come for remote hiking and river time, not for a town-based course week.
Forest, rivers and distance
Days are logistical. Trailheads aren't next to a dive shop. Guided trips handle access, because wandering unmarked ranch country isn't a holiday. Pair with Gracias a Dios only if you have a true expedition block. Pair with the capital only as a distant launch.
