Overview

The South West of England is the country's most developed windsurfing region. Weymouth and Portland — venue for the 2012 Olympic sailing events — offer some of the most consistent and technically demanding wind conditions in England, with the Fleet Lagoon, Portland Harbour and the open Chesil Beach all providing different sailing environments within a few miles of each other. Beginner to advanced progression

The RYA windsurfing programme moves from Start Windsurfing (basic water starts and sailing in a straight line) through Intermediate (upwind sailing, tacking and gybing) to Advanced (planing, harness sailing, footstraps and high-wind technique). The South West's variety of conditions makes it possible to advance through these stages without having to travel: learn in Poole Harbour, progress in Weymouth, challenge yourself in Portland or on the north Cornish coast.
