Do I need my own bike?

A road bike helps, and some rides and tours can provide one. Bring a helmet, or check whether one is included.

How fit do I need to be?

It scales to you. Pick a ride that matches your fitness, from a gentle lane loop to a hilly all-day route, and build up.

Do I need experience?

If you can ride a bike, you can start. Skills sessions help with group riding, road confidence and pacing.

Close-fitting clothes and a helmet. Padded shorts make a big difference, and shoes that clip in once you are comfortable.

Is it safe on the roads?

Skills sessions teach road positioning and confidence, and routes often favour quieter lanes. You choose how much traffic you take on.

How far can a beginner go?

A relaxed first ride might be 20 to 30 km, building from there. An e-road bike makes longer, hillier rides easy from the off.

Road Biking en Madrid

Road biking is cycling distilled: a light bike, smooth roads, and the quiet satisfaction of clicking off the miles. It can be a relaxed potter through the lanes or a lung-bursting assault on a famous climb, and the beauty is that you choose which, ride by ride.

It is more welcoming than the lycra suggests. Group rides are sociable and supportive, beginners are catered for, and a bit of coaching on position and pacing makes everything more comfortable. An e-road bike is a brilliant leveller if the hills put you off.

The guides and coaches on adventuro run led rides, skills sessions and tours for all abilities. Sort your riding position and pacing, and the miles start to fly by.
