Spain is one of the sport's true heartlands — its sunshine, warm rock and sheer quantity of limestone draw climbers from across the globe, especially through the European winter. From the sea cliffs of Mallorca, the birthplace of modern deep-water soloing, to the dramatic gorges and crags of Andalucía, Spain offers superb sport climbing across every grade, with reliable weather and a deep climbing culture.
Where to climb
Mallorca combines superb Tramuntana limestone sport climbing with the most famous deep-water soloing on earth. Andalucía — the Sierra de Aracena, the natural parks of the south and the Costa del Sol's mountains — offers sport crags, gorges and multi-activity adventure in warm, reliable conditions. Spain's climbing is famously winter-friendly, with sun-facing crags that climb well when northern Europe is frozen.
Guided climbing for all levels
Spain's qualified guides run introductory sessions, sport-climbing days and deep-water soloing for all abilities, with deep local knowledge of which crags and cliffs suit the conditions.
