Southern Kyrgyzstan is where the Tian Shan meets the Pamir-Alay and the Fergana Valley, a crossroads of 7,000 m peaks, walnut forests and ancient Silk Road cities. It holds the country's biggest mountaineering objective — Peak Lenin — and some of its most remote trekking, in a region that feels older, hotter and more Central Asian than the north.
