Singapore's northern nature belt is the city-state's escape hatch — Pulau Ubin's kampong lanes and Chek Jawa wetlands, Ketam Mountain Bike Park's laterite network, mangrove kayaking, and the quieter Punggol and Seletar waterways on the mainland. It feels a decade slower than the CBD, yet the bumboat from Changi Point still runs on a simple cash fare when the boat fills. Expect mud, mosquitoes, sudden showers and the last ferry home as part of the plan — that is what makes the day feel like a real outing.
Pulau Ubin by bike, boardwalk and paddle
Base the classic day on Pulau Ubin: hire a bike at the jetty for coastal lanes or commit to Ketam for mountain biking on graded trails; walk Chek Jawa Wetlands on the boardwalk when low tide uncovers the flats; or join a guided kayak through mangrove creeks. Carry cash for boat and bike hire, check the tide if Chek Jawa is the goal, and leave margin for the return crossing.
Mainland northern waterways
When ferry queues build or you want a shorter half-day, Punggol and Seletar offer mainland kayaking and paddleboarding on reservoirs and park connectors — still in the northern nature belt, without the island logistics. Open the Book here tab for live dates.
