This is the arrival: Belize City airport, then a water taxi or a short hop to Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker. The Barrier Reef sits offshore. You'll dive, snorkel and sail when the wind allows. East wind can cancel atoll and Blue Hole boats even in high season. The whole region is one district: Belize District. Caulker is smaller and slower. Ambergris has more dive-shop density.
Reef, Blue Hole and island rhythm
Scuba, snorkelling and sailing are the work. Hol Chan and Mexico Rocks are the everyday sites. Blue Hole is a weather-dependent day boat, not something to build the week around. Two-tank mornings, then a walk on the sand, then a look at tomorrow's wind. That's the honest schedule.
Cayes or jungle, not both in a rush
Most people pick cayes or Cayo as the main block. You can sleep on a caye and be in a cave the next afternoon if boats and roads play along. Leave slack. Combining this region with Cayo is the classic split. Combining all four Belize regions in a week is mostly transfers.
