Cayo is San Ignacio, the Macal, ATM and Caracol: inland Belize without a water taxi. Caves, river tubing and jungle hiking replace walls and wrecks. ATM has strict site rules and a fitness baseline. It isn't a casual cave stroll. This region is one district: Cayo.
ATM, rivers and Caracol
Actun Tunichil Muknal is swimming, scrambling and archaeological remains in the dark. Non-swimmers and anyone who panics in tight spaces should pick another trip. River tubing is the gentler water day. Caracol is a long jungle drive to a Maya city, not a cave. You can do reef and Cayo in one holiday. You shouldn't do both as same-day heroics.
San Ignacio as a base
Sleep here. Permits and early pickups run from town. Open the Book here tab for cave days. Permits are what sell out, not the district itself.
