RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course in Eastbourne

No prior experience is required to join the course. While it is designed for those who may have some familiarity with boating, the training is structured to support beginners and build confidence from the ground up.

Completing the RYA Level 1 Start Powerboating course can be beneficial but is not mandatory. The course instructors guide you step by step, ensuring you understand boat handling, safety, and navigation techniques as you progress.

The course is open to anyone aged 12 and above. If you are under 16, an adult must accompany you to ensure safety and support throughout the practical training.

The age policy allows younger learners to gain boating skills in a structured, safe environment. Adult supervision ensures that all activities, especially high-speed manoeuvres, are conducted responsibly while still being enjoyable.

The course runs over two full days from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Each day combines practical on-water sessions with brief theory and safety discussions.

You can expect a mix of hands-on exercises, including launching, manoeuvring, high-speed handling, and man overboard drills. Breaks are included to rest and review techniques, allowing you to consolidate your learning before the next session.

Meeting on day one at our Eastbourne seafront activity centre location before heading to the harbour each day.

You will gain practical skills in launching and recovering powerboats, handling boats at both low and high speeds, and performing man overboard recovery procedures. Navigation, tidal awareness, and collision regulations are also covered.

By the end of the course, you will have the knowledge and experience to operate a powerboat confidently and safely, both on inland waters and along the coast. These skills form the foundation for independent boating or future instructor training.

Upon successful completion, you receive the internationally recognised RYA Level 2 Powerboat Handling certificate. This certificate is essential for hiring a powerboat and is widely accepted for leisure and professional boating.

It also serves as the foundation for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC), allowing you to legally operate powerboats in many countries around the world. This qualification opens doors to international boating opportunities.

You should bring old trainers suitable for wet conditions, a windproof waterproof jacket and clothes to keep warm, and a passport-sized photo. These items ensure you are prepared for practical on-water exercises and certificate registration.

All other necessary equipment, including life jackets, safety gear, and training vessels, is provided. Instructors ensure everything is correctly fitted and ready before each session, so you can focus on learning.
