Standing up on the water is a great way to see Skye from a different angle. This paddleboarding session can be as chilled or as playful as you like, whether you’re testing your balance with a few challenges or just drifting along and enjoying the surroundings. It’s also a good option for families, with the chance for two people to share a board if needed.
Once you arrive, you’ll be introduced to your board and kit, with your guide running through a simple safety briefing before getting you started on dry land. You’ll learn how to balance, paddle efficiently, and turn, before heading onto the water. Everything is kept relaxed, so even if it’s your first time, you’ll quickly get comfortable.
Out on the water, the session will adapt depending on conditions and confidence levels. You might spend time working on balance games and skills, or take a more gentle route along sheltered waters. If you’re with younger children, sharing a board keeps things steady and fun, while still giving everyone a chance to take part.
Sessions are based from Whitewave in Linicro, just outside Portree, giving easy access to a range of sheltered coastal and inland spots across the north of Skye. This flexibility helps match the best location to the day’s conditions.
The exact meeting point will be confirmed a day or two before your session, usually somewhere around the Trotternish peninsula. Roads on Skye can get busy during peak times, so it’s worth allowing extra travel time to keep things relaxed.
No previous paddleboarding experience is needed, and most people joining are trying it for the first time. You’ll be guided step by step, so you can build confidence at your own pace without feeling rushed.
A basic level of balance and comfort around water is helpful, especially for standing sections. You should also be prepared for the possibility of getting wet, as falling in is all part of the learning process.
Built on decades of outdoor experience, the team continues a long-standing connection with Scotland’s coastline while offering a modern, hands-on approach to water activities.
Cam and Izzy bring experience from across Scotland and abroad, shaping sessions that are approachable and easy going. The focus is on helping you feel confident on the water while still having plenty of space to enjoy the experience at your own pace.
No experience is needed at all, and most people are completely new to paddleboarding when they join. You’ll start on land, learning how to balance and paddle before heading onto the water.
Once you’re out there, you’ll build confidence quickly with expert guidance. The session is designed so you can progress at your own pace, whether you stay on your knees or move up to standing.
Not at all. You can start on your knees and stay that way for as long as you like. Standing is optional and usually comes once you feel comfortable with balance and control.
There’s no pressure to do tricks or stand if you don’t want to. The focus is on enjoying time on the water in whatever way suits you best.
Yes, private sessions are available and can be booked through the booking form or by contacting us directly. This allows you to tailor the session to suit your group and how you want to spend your time.
It’s a good option if you’d like more flexibility, extra guidance, or just a more personal experience on the water. You can shape the pace and focus of the session together.
You’ll want swimwear or base layers underneath your kit, with no cotton or denim as they don’t dry comfortably. Bring warm layers for afterwards, especially if the weather is cooler.
Footwear that you don’t mind getting wet is essential, along with a towel and a change of clothes. If you’re on a full day session, bring food and water too.
There’s a good chance you might end up in the water at some point, especially if you’re trying standing for the first time. That’s all part of the experience and nothing to worry about.
Wetsuits are provided, so you’ll stay comfortable even if you do fall in. The water is generally sheltered, making it a safe environment to practise.
You’ll meet around Whitewave in Linicro, near Portree, but the exact location will be confirmed a day or two before your session. This helps choose the best spot based on conditions.
Travel on Skye can take longer than expected during busy times, so it’s best to allow extra time.
Half day sessions last around 3 hours in total, including getting changed, briefing, and travel to the water if needed. You’ll typically spend at least 1.5 hours on the water.
Absolutely amazing
Amazing experience. Izzy and Cam were very knowledgable and good chat. Waterproofs were provided which was very handy. We will be recommending to friends when they visit :))
We had a great time in the Uig may area. Clear instructions and really friendly and knowledgeable guide. Loved seeing the seal colony and ‘coop’ jelly fish. And some great tips for other activities/eateries.
We had the absolute best time! The trip was part of a Birthday gift and it went down an absolute treat. The guys at North Skye Outdoors have invested in some great equipment — we felt totally safe (and dry) —and are extremely knowledgeable about the area and local wildlife.…
