Trying something different while on Skye doesn’t have to take up your whole day. This relaxed archery session is a great way to spend a couple of hours, whether you’re travelling through or looking for something fun to break up your trip. You’ll be learning the basics, improving your aim, and seeing who can land closest to the bullseye.
Once you arrive, you’ll get settled in and meet your instructor, who will run through a short safety briefing before getting you set up with your equipment. You’ll start with the basics, learning how to hold the bow, position yourself, and release an arrow with control. It’s all explained clearly, so even if you’ve never tried it before, you’ll quickly get the hang of it.
As the session builds, you’ll have plenty of time to practise and improve. Expect a mix of relaxed coaching and a bit of friendly competition, whether that’s trying to beat your own score or going head-to-head with friends or family. By the end, you’ll feel much more confident with a bow in your hands and might even surprise yourself with how accurate you’ve become.
Sessions are based at Whitewave in Linicro, just outside Portree, making it an easy stop if you’re exploring the North end of Skye. The surrounding area is open and peaceful, giving you plenty of space to focus while still being close to some of the island’s most well-known spots.
Roads on Skye can get very busy, especially during peak times, so it’s worth allowing a bit of extra time to get there without rushing.
No previous experience is needed, and the session is designed to be accessible for beginners as well as those who’ve tried archery before. You’ll be guided through everything step by step, so you can learn at your own pace and enjoy the experience without pressure.
You should come dressed for the weather, as sessions take place outdoors. Warm layers and waterproofs are a good idea if conditions are changeable, and bringing a drink or snack is always helpful, especially if you’re travelling around the island.
With roots going back over 30 years on Skye, the team builds on a long history of outdoor activities in the area.
Cam and Izzy bring a mix of experience from across the Highlands and beyond, including time spent working in places like the Cairngorms and New Zealand. Their approach keeps things relaxed and supportive, making sure you feel comfortable while still picking up new skills along the way.
