Stretching across some of Norway's most impressive mountain scenery, this guided hiking expedition takes you from the high-altitude landscapes of Hardangervidda into the dramatic surroundings of Aurlandsdalen. Over three days of walking, you'll experience changing terrain, traditional mountain hospitality and some of the country's most celebrated hiking routes.
Designed for travellers who enjoy active adventures without rushing, the journey combines well-established trails, comfortable mountain accommodation and experienced guides who manage the logistics throughout. With luggage transfers, meals and transport included, you can focus entirely on enjoying the experience and the landscapes around you.
Combining local knowledge with extensive guiding experience, the team creates an enjoyable and supportive environment for exploring Norway's mountain regions. Guides such as Vibeke and Miles bring years of outdoor experience and a genuine passion for sharing these landscapes with visitors.
Unlike self-guided treks where logistics can become complicated, every aspect of the journey has been carefully organised. From transport and accommodation to meals and route planning, guests can simply enjoy the walk while knowing the practical details are taken care of.
Gathering in Oslo, you'll meet your guides and fellow hikers before travelling by train into the mountains. The route to Finse is considered one of Norway's most scenic rail journeys, gradually leaving the city behind as the landscape becomes increasingly wild and remote.
After arriving, there is time to settle in, receive a trip briefing and prepare for the days ahead while enjoying your first evening in the mountains.
Beginning at approximately 1,222 metres above sea level, today's hike follows classic Hardangervidda trails through open mountain terrain. Lakes, distant glaciers and expansive views accompany much of the route as you make your way towards Geiterygghytta.
Reaching the mountain hut in the afternoon, you'll enjoy a hearty dinner and spend the evening surrounded by the quiet atmosphere that makes Norway's mountain cabins so memorable.
Continuing deeper into the mountains, the route passes through varied terrain as the landscape gradually changes character. Along the way, you'll stop at Steinbergdalshytta for coffee and traditional waffles before continuing towards Aurlandsdalen.
As the valley grows deeper and greener, you'll begin to appreciate the dramatic transition from open plateau to alpine valley. The day concludes at Aurlandsdalshytta, where your luggage awaits and a warm evening meal rounds off another rewarding day.
Saving one of Norway's most famous hiking routes until last, the final stage follows the spectacular Aurlandsdalen. Waterfalls, steep valley walls and constantly changing scenery make this a memorable finish to the expedition.
After passing historic locations such as Sinjarheim and reaching Vassbygdi, a private bus transfers the group back to Oslo. The adventure concludes with a final overnight stay in the city and the chance to reflect on the journey together.
Throughout the expedition, accommodation is provided in traditional staffed mountain huts operated within Norway's well-established trekking network. These huts offer comfortable shared rooms, hearty meals and welcoming communal spaces where hikers gather after each day's walk.
Before and after the trek itself, overnight accommodation in Oslo is included, allowing for a more relaxed start and finish to the journey. Bedding is provided throughout the trip, reducing the amount of equipment guests need to carry.
Participants should be comfortable hiking for between five and seven hours per day over several consecutive days. While the pace remains steady and there are regular breaks, the terrain includes mountain trails, uneven surfaces and significant distances.
Previous mountain hiking experience is helpful but does not need to be extensive. Anyone with good general fitness who regularly enjoys longer walks should find the trip achievable with suitable preparation.
No. One of the advantages of this itinerary is that luggage is transferred to Aurlandsdalshytta, reducing what you need to carry during key sections of the route.
For the daily hikes themselves, you'll only need a comfortable daypack containing water, extra clothing, snacks and personal items required during the day.
Norwegian mountain huts are known for being comfortable, welcoming and full of character. Guests typically stay in shared rooms and enjoy communal dining areas where hikers gather each evening.
Meals are freshly prepared, and many visitors find the social atmosphere and mountain hospitality become one of the highlights of the entire trip.
The trip includes full board from dinner on arrival until breakfast on the final hiking day. Meals are designed to provide plenty of energy for walking while also offering a taste of traditional Norwegian mountain cuisine.
Coffee and waffles at selected mountain huts are also included, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy a classic part of Norwegian hiking culture.
Hardangervidda is one of Europe's largest mountain plateaus and offers a genuine feeling of space and remoteness. Large sections of the landscape remain undeveloped, creating an experience that feels far removed from busy towns and cities.
Despite this wilderness atmosphere, the route follows established trails and mountain huts, making it accessible to hikers without requiring expedition-level experience.
Aurlandsdalen is often considered one of Norway's most celebrated valleys thanks to its dramatic scenery and historic hiking routes. Steep valley walls, waterfalls and traditional mountain farms create a landscape that changes constantly throughout the descent.
Many hikers regard the route through Aurlandsdalen as one of the finest walks in the country and a highlight of any visit to Norway.
Yes. Group numbers are intentionally limited to a maximum of 15 participants.
Smaller groups allow guides to provide more personal support while also creating a more enjoyable and social atmosphere throughout the journey.
